How does rolling about with no MOT affect your insurance?
My guess is most insurers have a clause to say that the car has to be roadworthy otherwise the policy is invalid?
I guess a car that's MOT exempt would theoretically not trip an ANPR check if it's insured and taxed, but the likelihood of the third party being covered in the event of an accident would depend on the insurer?

Because of this thread, I dug my old R/Cs out of the wardrobe. I built both of these about 15 years ago: Kyosoho Lazer Alpha, belt drive 4wd: Tamiya TA02 Toyota Prerunner: I've just put a new battery and ESC on the Kyosho, all the fun has come flooding back!

I just spent most of my lunch hour reading all 10 pages of this. What a great read! You're clearly having an absolute blast with this car, it reminds me of the adventures I used to have when I started out in my first Mk1 Golf, except my adventures were a lot less cool.
I know people will say 'don't build what you can buy' and encourage you to buy a Turbo'd car but from what I've read you and this car have been through a lot, and as you say yourself, you could live to regret selling. Driving the miles that you do, would the economy difference mean that a turbocharged car would be viable as a daily driver?

Fair bit of interest and a few cheeky offers but nobody has actually come and seen or driven the car?
There is no other 190 in the country with leather and long MOT in this price bracket.

I guess that forums are a prime target for scammers because the classified section often assumes a certain amount of honesty and trust between users.
Personally, having been stung a few times in recent years, I never hand over any money when buying parts and/or cars without having a good nosey round what I'm buying and eyeballing the seller a bit. I know you're not always afforded that luxury, but where larger sums of money are at stake I prefer not to take a chance.
Nowadays I walk away from more stuff than I make offers on. Generally I take the cynical view that if something looks cheap or too good to be true, then it probably is for a reason.
I guess it's an unfortunate fact of life that even in such a good community as this, there are some bad eggs in the box.

I've got one of these, they're only suitable for steelies and/or wheels that you don't mind getting scratched. I've used it a few times for taking tyres off wheels I'm weighing in or swapping tyres around on my winter steelies. The bead breaker does have a tendency to bend, but only if you're particularly ham fisted with it.

I used to put up readers rides threads for all of my cars until it got a bit unwieldy, but I'll have a go condensing a few cars into one and see how that goes... The most retro thing I own is my 1967 Traveller, restored in the 1990s but when I inherited it off my grandfather it had spent 7 years under a tarp under a tree Fortunately the tarp has saved it from the worst of the weather, but there's still some grot to attend to. I'm currently part way through replacing the bottom of the n/s A pillar and repairing the sill and edge of the floor. My plan was to have it finished this summer but I've been putting it off and wasting too much time on other cars. Next in order of attention is my Golf. I bought it a couple of years ago stock and having had a succession of old VW's, did what I always do and slammed it on a set of daft wheels: I ran it like that for a while, but the wheels were kerbed and the paint was falling off so I started looking into doing something completely different wheels wise. A lot of head scratching and measuring later and it looked like this: This is how it currently stands, but rather than subject myself to driving a slammed car daily and it to another fylde coast winter I freed up some cash, went to Glasgow and bought this: This is my first Benz, and on the basis of this one I'm hooked. Effortless to drive, uber comfy, does 40mpg on a run and looks damn cool in the process. Unfortunately my wife has decided I need to grow up a bit, so I'm taking on her 320d, she's buying a BINI and it is looking likely that the Benz will have to go before the end of the year. I'll update the thread with some photos of actual work on the cars at some point when I get chance! Cheers.
