Driving past bournemouth the other day I spied a Peugeot 505 estate taxi. It had the roof light and was in the official 'bournemouth cab yellow'
Couldn't get a photo of it in time annoyingly, but it looked pretty cool. Anyone else seen (or been in) this?
In my area the council states that Taxi's have to be a certain age (less than 4 years I think) so was just a bit of a shock to see a retro still at work; assuming someone hasn't just bought it and kept all the livery and roof lights of course.

It wouldn't surprise me. When I lived there, I regularly saw a Mk3 Cortina 'yellow cab' in working service, and that was in the late 90's.

Saw an 'A' Plate mk2 cavalier minicabbing in Derbyshire last year. Also saw a MK1 Astra Estate down here near gatwick with the plate on the back.

I remember taking a ride in a long wheelbase Mercedes W123 taxi when I lived in Bath, about 4 years ago. The driver (really friendly fella) was telling me how it had done the sort of huge mileage that you hear legendary tales of old Mercedes doing, but how he was probably going to have to get rid of it because the council were bringing in a similar age limit on the taxis. I do hope he didn't, there's nothing quite like fulfilling your "dictator in a Mercedes limousine" fantasies on your way home from the station ;D
(Even if it was powered by a rather rattly diesel and almost certainly wouldn't have had the power to outrun anarchist agitators, dissidents or assassins...)

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

YES YES YES YES! I've once been in this when I used to live down there. Was far too intoxicated to ask him about it though (was basically being carried). I just mumbled something about "awesome ride". I spotted it last month though, so its deffinatly still running. Next time I see the guy I've been meaning to pin him down and grill him with the 20+ questions I want to ask.

^give him a retro-rides ELV sticker! What a hero. I'd walk past a line of normal taxis in the rain if i saw that in the rank.

lol, see this all the time and been in it a few times. think the reg is TAX1 or something like that. apparently he has quite an impressive collection of cars including a beetle with 356 running gear. also been in the above mentioned mk3 tina. that stoped running around 10 years ago and it had alot of miles on.

There's a 505 in a scrapyard not far from here. It looks like it drove in there and, because it's a 505, it probably did. The wife told me no. --Phil

The legroom in the back of 505 Break`s is great! Hmm, really need to look into the 504 and `05 station wagons sitting around over here... Been saying so the last 5 years tho, haha! The 504 is even a 7 seater GR8 FOR ROADTRIP

Its probably this one... ....spotted in early 2007 ! Yeah, that's the bad boy! Remember the roof rack too. Proper cool, definitely think there's a market (albeit a small one) for some retro cab action. A friend of mine is moving down to Bournemouth soon, I'll have to get him a RR sticker and to keep an eye out for it again!
