Well there i was thinking this was going to be an awsome year on the road for me and my corsair.. seems not. Anyone under the age of 25 can no longer get insured ATM with Footman James, and they were the only insurers who would insure under 25's sensibly I'm 18 with a stock corsair no NCB and they quoted me £800 which was damn good! this was 3 weeks ago, now just browsing through VZI i have heard they cannot insure under 25's ATM cause of underwriter issues..and i have seen also on the triumph forum club they are trying to get light out of this but just a heads up this year now seems highly unsure for me now.. i just hope they can still quote me and many others sensibly.. have to wait till wednesday to even see if they can quote me and i will let you know how much it will be... anyone know of any other insurers who can quote me for my criteria above? majority are over 25 only have a picture for my rant ahh dear hope i can sort this asap  happy new year chaps lets keep it retro and i wont be fazed by this insurance thing..its in our blood i guess cant give up on it all now |

*cough* Lancaster insured me at 20 and it wasn't ridiculous.
HIC are also closing off under 25's insurance part too.
Something to do with Equity Red Star apparently.

lancaster gave me a ridiculous quote of 3.5k online guess its best to phone? and also heard peter james was over 25's unless the same rule applies to ring up much like FJ and they will sort you out?? hopefully this thread will help other but do keep retro pics topped up  |

I NEVER buy insurance online. I'm insured with Chaucer (via performance direct) who are pretty good but DON'T change address or transfer the policy to another vehicle because they FLEECE you for it (£50 for a vehicle change and £20 for address change, "admin" charges apparently)
You need to make a Cup of tea, sit down and get on the blower. Don't give up and you'll get something sorted.

theres a local insurance broker close to me who according to a few local youngsters (17-20) they all got quotes up to £1000 cheaper than online quotes. so I'm going to give him a go.
just proves that ringing / asking is cheaper than online. So much for the whole "online discount" that companies boast ;D

I'm 22 and I found all the usual insurers for classic/modern classic all useless. There not interested unless you have a squeaky clean licence, loads of NCB, and are over 25 with a second car.
If they were interested, they would just massively inflate the premium quote..

cheers for the tips guys, have read through AKKU's guide like a bible previously, will note downthese companys and on tuesday sort insurance out and try and get some decent quotes. looks like my phone companys gonna love me this month |

I had my traders policy with footman james for 10 years until my renewal was due in july, they didn't have an underwriter this year for trade insurance, upon ringing round i was told by a couple of other brokers that allegedly, footman james didn't have a trade underwriter due to giving out trade polices to anyone who asked for them and now have stacks of claims pending.
I went with peter james in the end as they were only 1 of 2 brokers to get me quote to include classic cars and american cars, also peter james was set up by the guy who originally started footman james.

When I tried to insure my Chevette last year I wasn't allowed to cause I was under 25 and the car wasn't 30 years old till today  if I want to insure it privet I would have to test the car then bring it to an engineer to prove its a 30 year old car pay out an arm and a leg in fee I said screw that I'm 25 in April I'll walk |

Weird as I'm 17, started driving in october and got a quote of £1020 tpft on a mk2 fiesta with FJ, which i thought was pretty good seeing as nobody else gave me decent quotes or anything :/

for a mainstream insurer, try aviva. I was 20, 3 points and 1 years no claims and got the sierra insured for £650 fully comp. They also allow you to change the car on the policy for free, and have a little side edition where you can insure another car for up to 30days to use whilst your current one is being fixed or something.
If I still had a sierra (well a p100) my insurance with them fully comp was gonna be £550. But since i havnt got one I got a requote on the micra which came back at £1200! So instead i went out and bought a jag xj6. So I'm 21, 2 years ncb and 3 points, driving about in a rwd 3.2 straight 6 car for £920.
Though with aviva, you need to do it online as when I rang up (thier website was down) i was getting quotes in the £2k's!

noting this all down tomrrow(if they are open i should imigine so?) or tuesdayi will be ringing up FJ and asking whats up with this under 25 situation and ringing other insurers letting you guys know what happens cheers all again keep them coming

Footman james have changed for younger drivers i agree, I'm 26 and got some silly costs this week
last year i had 3 escorts insured, [2 x mk2's 1 mk4] for £350
this years renewal was £625, but shopped around and adrian flux got it down to £260
Footman james then quoted me £1140 for a austin maestro, thats with 7 years no claims!

I'm 23 and i got my capri covered with lancaster last year for 550 got my renewal quote through at just shy of 800, gave them a call and they managed to beat there own price by 400 pounds!! so it does show calling makes a big difference.
