loving the logo in the ford style lettering! the perished speakers look familiar - i think every car i've had, come with a set of these :-D so nice to see different ideas, and then being executed so well (which is what is great about this forum!). I am so tempted by a mk3/4 now... i know of two within a few roads of me that keep getting me thinking. Both owned by old guys...low mileage...potential!

^If you can get one for a good price now, DO IT!^ They are great cars and getting harder to find nice ones. Here is the main reason for not being too worried about the downpipe bracket/flange getting smashed off: Not the best shots, but I've got a 1.6 EFi engine to fit. I actually bought it before I'd got my hands on the Escort itself. A complete set-up from an XR2i bought from BiAS between viewing/agreeing a deal on the Escort and getting my grubby mitts on it. I'd been meaning to fit the engine for a good while, but needed to source some parts like an injection fuel tank plus a load of service parts. I was also enjoying driving the car so much I just put the engine to one side for quite a while. Now my holidays were over, the Gathering long gone and the car sitting with a badly blowing exhaust, it was time to start thinking of ditching the carb engine and fitting the EFi. Time for an imrovement in driveability, economy and power (only 10bhp increase, but this car was never about lots of power)

Can't wait to see that engine in, although on paper the increase is only 10bhp I reckon it'll feel more the injection CVH's always felt much more punchy than the non-sporty carb models. Great stuff as always Bruce!

Looking great. Will be good with the 2i lump in it. I've got a 4 branch manifold sat in the garage if you want it? The roof box looks so right

Can't wait to see that engine in, although on paper the increase is only 10bhp I reckon it'll feel more the injection CVH's always felt much more punchy than the non-sporty carb models. Great stuff as always Bruce! Thanks Robin...it was you and Ian convincing me that the EFi was a worthwhile conversion that helped me go this route. I'm so glad I did because it feels like the right choice as a 'natural' evolution to the carb engine. haha...thanks Dude. I love it on its winter wheels, that would how I would have it all the time I do like the RS 7's and think it's a classic look, but I equally have time (if not just a little bit more) for the Hayashis. Just wait until you see what I've got in the pipeline now....that's really going to divide opinions! I still have an injection tank sat in the garage FOC if someone can get it from sheffield to A52 Thanks Amigo. Was it a Mk3 or Mk4? If a Mk3, I'll see if can get Ryan to collect it soon? I've already sourced a tank with all the sender, pipewirk etc, but it looks a bit crusty around the edges and if I can get a better one that would make me feel more confident fitting it. Many thanks Dude. I'm always on the forum usually just mooching as a guest (even tho I have an account) but I just had to sign in to comment on this car its simply epic!! I'm keeping a close eye on this one :-) Many thanks Amigo, that a big compliment! REally appreciated. ;D Looking great. Will be good with the 2i lump in it. I've got a 4 branch manifold sat in the garage if you want it? Oooh! I was going to look into a 4 branch manifold, I'll send you a PM and we can talk money, postage etc...Thanks Dude.

The Efi conversion will make such a difference, especially in the colder months when it comes to starting her up.
I have been following this thread and really enjoy every update, every change, every touch unique. It's really nice to see someone going a different direction with a mk3.
Keep the updates coming mate

Next up...a MASSIVE thank you must go to RobinXR4i. He very kindly sourced me an ever growing list of parts to throw at the XR2i engine. Sold as a good runner by Ian (BiAS) who is as trustworthy as anyone I know, I still wanted to add some piece of mind to the engine. My take was that it's easier to do all of this while the engine is out of the car, so some phonecalls were made to Robin and at one of the Area 52 playweekends, he arrived with a box full of goodies for me. This is some, but certianly not all of the parts I've bought to refresh the engine. List of some of the new parts I bought: Cambelt & tensioner 3pc clutch kit Water pump Thermostat kit Alternator belt Oil filter Air filter Fuel filter Crank seal Sump gasket Rocker gasket Inlet manifold gasket Exhaust manifold gasket Valve stem oil seals Time to get started on fitting them all then: Hydraulic lifters all cleaned through while the new valve stem oil seals were fitted, water pump on and cam belt/tensioner about to go on (Many thanks to Rich for the help with this and James for the kind gift of the valve spring compressor) With most of the top end stuff done, the engine was flipped over on the stand and it was off with the sump.... .....to check on the bearings (all looking great) the bores (all looking sweet), so a clean/paint of the sump and clean out of the oil pick-up ready for the crank seal and sump gasket I was very glad to have ordered a thremostat kit....the existing one was looking a bit worse for wear. The housing itself will need some TLC, it's corroded in one area. I'll be cleaning the whole housing up before treating the corroded area to some JB weld (then dressed back) - it's such great stuff for things like this. Next up...some pretty cool and exciting news (well, for me anyway!)

If its in good shape you should notice a decent enough increase in power. Mainly down to the cam. The non XR/RS 1.6 CVHs got a weaker profile cam, the sporty one makes them rev so much better. 90 to 108 BHP with added MPG is pretty good!
Be careful and take your time with the loom transplant though, these things run but are a nightmare when everything isn't wired right!

Sometimes you just can't make these things up! (very lacking in pics, but well worth the read if you want the opportunity to shout obsceneties at me in a couple of posts!!)
The story goes a good three months back when I first managed to source a set of wheels I'd been after for quite some time, at a price that didn't make my eyes water. I didn't previously realise they were quite so rare or desirable. There are about eight or nine different variants of this style wheel from this particular manufacturer, but it's typical that the *only* one I liked was the rarest and most sought after. No matter how much I tried to convince myself that the 'other' (cheaper and easier to source) versions would do, I had it firm in my mind that this one and only size/spec would work how I wanted it to. You know how I am when I'm sure about something? Yep, I'm a stubborn old sod!
Around the same time I also did some research, some measurements, some calculations and some headscratching and also realised that the tyre sizes I wanted were a curse word to get....and not cheap! I could plump for some 195/45's for mucho cheapness and great availability, but instead I decided that some 175/50's were what I wanted. Despite costing more than THREE TIMES as much and being very hard to source.
I found a pair of 'near new' part worns for sale in Ireland for £95 delivered which I figured was a bargain seeing as this is nearly half the price of new ones in this size.
I clicked 'buy it now', paid for them....and that's when the 'fun' started.

Be careful and take your time with the loom transplant though, these things run but are a nightmare when everything isn't wired right! Thanks Ade. I'll certainly be taking my time on this. I was originally intending to 'sling' the new set-up in over a weekend in order to keep the car on the road as a daily. Then I started to come over all typically 'me' in wanting to do it properly, so decided to take my time and just use the Delica as a daily in the interim. Other things have slowed progress on the Escort and I have now got a Mazda 626 Estate as a 'stand in' for the Escort which means I can now take my time to do it all 100% properly. This includes the wiring which I'm very fussy about...PLUS I've got Jame 'VileRug' and Rich on hand if I need some help. Rich is very good with wiring, but James is just a complete **** when it comes to plastic shrouded copper string. He really does know his stuff. I'm very lucky! Don't worry, there will be no scotchloks, choc-blocks, dodgy crimp connects or 'bound with a bit of insulating tape in this car. I never have and never would. OCD is my middle name remember?

Amen to the OCD! One of my first minis had a complete rewire with a modern fuse box, everything properly individually fused, including the countless electrical accessories I added to it, and it was the best thing I ever did, took me months and cost me a small fortune but I learnt a lot and quite enjoyed it. (I was 16 and am now a control panel builder, who'd have known!)
This is an epic piece of machinery Bruce, and it makes me miss the ones my mam and dad had when I was a kid, i might just have to recreate my dads mk4 loon when I have finished the audi!
