I might just have to recreate my dads mk4 loon when I have finished the audi! I think you should. Recreating a car from your younger days, then putting your own mark on it is something really rewarding. ive just bought a mk4 cabrio with a rs2k engine that I may sell if your interested? I'm either breaking the car or putting it back to efi cvh Thanks Dude, I appreciate the offer, but after spending a good amount of money on all the parts for the EFi, I'm going to stick to my guns and keep it 'authentic' 1.6 CVH. This thing is the fun lumps I can't wait to get it back on the road.

So, part two of my 'new wheel' story: I'd ordered the pair of tyres from Ireland and waited eagerly for them to arrive. Then waited a bit longer. All the meantime looking out for another pair.... Just over a week of waiting and I logged into eBay to ask the seller if there was a tracking number. Before I could get that far, eBay posted up a message saying that it will take up to two weeks because the tyres are coming from Ireland ("Hey, eBay...Ireland isn't the other side of the world!") I decided to play the waiting game a bit longer before messaging the seller. 15 days after paying for the tyres, I sent a message. The seller had marked them as dispatched (the same day I paid for them) and had also left feedback for me. Feedback was good, so I was hoping it was just a technicality. The seller responded quickly saying the tyres had been despatched the same day I paid for them (two weeks back) and had been delivered four days later. They also asked if I could I confirm the delivery address...which I knew was correct. The next day the seller got back to me to say that the courier in England had delivered the tyres to a completely different address 15 miles outside of Bristol. The only similarity was the name of the house; The Old Coach House. Nothing else was remotely the same! Massive apologies from the seller (even though it wasn't their fault) and a full refund was given. I really wanted the tyres, but at least I got my money back. The next day I got ANOTHER message from the seller saying they felt bad about the mess-up with the tyres and they hadn't had any luck with the English courier, so have sent me another pair of the exact same tyres. Like new....same make, same size. FREE! They arrived four days later to my address. When they said 'like new' they weren't kidding! I've never seen part worns in such good condition with so much tread. And I had to remind myself again that they were FREE! The price for a pair of these new is £200. They had cost me a big fat zero! Part three of this story: If something always seems too good to be true....

As always a very good read. Enjoying the updates andnlooking forward to seeing the car progress further.
It seems you have the winter wheel selection sorted, however if you're looking for something a tad out of the norm but somehow familiar and OEM I may have something that will interest you.

It seems you have the winter wheel selection sorted, however if you're looking for something a tad out of the norm but somehow familiar and OEM I may have something that will interest you. Qwerty...is that you? Nice to have you back Dude. Thanks for the offer of the wheels - I'm now very curious! If you want to PM me some details, I'll certainly be excited to see what you've got. I'm pretty much (more than) sorted for choice now with three sets, but you know me when it comes to wheels...there is never such a thing as too many. Part three of the tyre story: So I've got my money back in full from the seller and now sitting on a free pair of tyres, but as we all know, when things seem too good to be true.... I get a call from the seller to check the tyres have arrived alright and I let him know that all is good, thanking him profusely for the refund AND the pair of tyres. "Well, that's the reason for calling you" he said. Now I'm starting to worry, he's going to want his money back? "We can't get any luck with the English courier about your mis-delivered tyres, so if you fancy popping out to the address and the tyres are still there, you can keep them too" WHAT?? I was straight into the car and 40 mins later I'm near Weston Super Mare near to the address given. To cut a long story short, after a scene akin to Anika Rice from Treasure Hunt with lots of running around a huge manor house and all its cottages, outbuildings and sheds I've finally got another pair of Yoko A539's in my possession! Collecting the tyres from ^that^ place was definitely an adventure and a story you just couldn't make up, but I now have a complete set of FOUR mint condition tyres for the grand sum of NOTHING. Whilst heading back to Bristol and not wanting to lose any time, I arrange to meet up with a wheel refurbisher who does mobile wheel repairs. He's agreed to strip, clean, paint and polish my wheels for me. I meet him while he's on his way back from a job, at a location ideal for me because it's on my way home. Drop the wheels off with him, discuss exactly what I want them to be like and he says they'll be ready for collection in a week. I leave him with my number and head home. I've got a massive grin on my face because things are coming together. I've got a set of free tyres for a set of wheels that I'm, for once, letting someone else refurbish. Things are good. If only that was the end of the story! We'll return to the wheels another time. That's a whole different story. I get home and before I can kick my shoes off, the phone goes. It's a very good buddy of mine and I just figure he's calling for one of out usual catch-ups. Not so! "Hi Bryn......"

Where did you get the side stripes from, they look great. I got given a mk3 three door boggo basic 1.6 as a project & coming up with plans involving deep dish capri LS rims & a fair bit of lowering & a respray in original white. I need something to break the sides up. Are they bought or just something you made up in vinyl ?

Thanks Amigo. Was it a Mk3 or Mk4? If a Mk3, I'll see if can get Ryan to collect it soon? I've already sourced a tank with all the sender, pipewirk etc, but it looks a bit crusty around the edges and if I can get a better one that would make me feel more confident fitting it. Many thanks Dude. It's mk4 orion, 1990 efi tank, also have a 1988 carb tank to. Also have a pair of nearly as new kwickfit exhuasts to go with them, have been trying to sell them for £10 the pair, but if you want them donate a tenner to a chairty of your choice.

Love your story-telling ability Bruce. Many thanks Dude although I do feel like I ramble on a lot. I realy should do less of the talk, more of the photos! (although I was so damn lucky on the latest tyre 'purchase' that I felt I had to share the story!) Where did you get the side stripes from, they look great. Are they bought or just something you made up in vinyl ? The to answer it best, I've pulled this from page six: I then spent a good few hours in CAD designing the logo lettering to replace the RS 1600i logo. I wanted it to look fairly authentic so had to design it from scratch, but I think it was worth it. For me, it had to be the 80's Ford style font or nothing. Once all designed and the measurements checked I fired them out though my vinyl cutter and there is was....my side stripes ready to fit. Good on you for getting a free Mk3! I look forward to seeing what you do with it (I'm assuming you'll be starting a readers rides thread?) It is I with dummy re inserted! I'll PM you when I'm next on my computer and have pictures. Well, it's good to have you back. Looking forward to meeting you at last next week. And also, thanks for the awesome wheels...I think they're certainly going to result in some confused expressions! Can't wait to get them fitted now. This thing is the fun lumps what a quote! and so right too I have to say, I do rather like it myself. It's mk4 orion, 1990 efi tank, also have a 1988 carb tank to. Also have a pair of nearly as new kwickfit exhuasts to go with them, have been trying to sell them for £10 the pair, but if you want them donate a tenner to a chairty of your choice. Thanks again Dude. I'll have to pass on the tanks, the set-up I've got is the Mk3 injection tank with the external fuel pump etc...none of which is compatible with what you've got. Many thanks though. Also, as for the exhausts, I recently sourced a stainless steel one which will be fitted when the engine goes in. I really appreciate the offers, but they're probably best going to someone else who'll be able to get the best use from them?

So, I get this call from Bryn, but rather than entering into our usual 'catch-up' banter, he cuts to the chase, "Simon from Classic Ford wants to feature your car, when can we do this?" Me: "But it's got a bone stock engine, drivetrain etc..." Bryn: "He wants your car. He saw it at the Gathering and wants it for a feature...as it is" Me: "Err....OK then, as long as you're sure? I wouldn't exactly call it feature worthy!" Bryn: "Find a location, let me know a time and we'll do this" A few weeks later and Bryn arrives at the unit. Before he's even unpacked his camera, three hours have passed while we do our usual catch-up (Bryn is as bad as me, we literally talk for England when we're together). A few other A52 regulars arrive (James, Mark and Jon) as he sets up his gear then decides it's dinner time so he buys us all pizza...and sticks a film on his laptop. Food and entertainment provided by the legend. Tonights delight: large thin & crispy with a side order of Anchorman. We also get to see a sneak preview of some of the amazing filming he's been working on recently. I'd heard all about it months back (on one of our previous long phonecalls), but seeing there 'for real' it simply blew me away. The stone cold silence when the footage stopped summed up the sheer awe from everyone else too....a truly stunning bit of film making. Is there no end to this guys talents (and if you knew the whole story, you'd hate him even more!!!) Time was getting on and Bryn got to work. It was so strange seeing a car I know so well through someones elses lens, through someone elses eyes! It was such a great night. I posted this pic on Instagram with the title, "Four things I dearly love: Jed, Area 52, Bryn and my Escort. Not in any particular order, but it'll do." I think that just about sums it up. From what I remember of our last conversation over Christmas, the feature is due out in the next edition of Classic Ford - sometime around the middle of this month. I'm actually quite excited!

MM, I love reading your stories, they say a picture is a thousand words but your words add so much to the pictures it's unbelievable!! How you go about your projects and juggle so much (work and home life included!) amazes me and I just wish I had half your ability to (if I did, the car would be finished, i'd have another project and a happy wife!!) Please keep up the rambling ( that goes for the Lotus thread too ) and the pictures it's great having it all to back up such well thought out and executed projects, your cars are a complete credit to you and i doff my well trodden hat and salute you!

Congrats on the classic ford feature, finally mk3's are getting recognised as classic fords. :-) I'm on my 4th one now and love it to bits, I think it'll be alot harder for me to part with this one now they are getting so hard to find. They must actually be rarer than the mk1's and 2s now as they don't have the rally pedigrie of the rwd ones so have managed 30 years without getting massively in demand especially the 'normal' models but your car shows you don't need an rs badge to look cool :-)
