I've owned an estate car for 3-4 years now and I can't think of anything better than a V8 stock looking estate car. Something like a Cortina, Hillman Hunter or Marina would be cool but, then last night I thought of this.
A couple of months ago I rented a new Mustang in the states and last night as I was driving my Focus estate home, I was thinking what kind of work apart from the tunnel and the floor of the car would need to be modified in a project like that and home much of a ridicules task and cost would it be? I've seen some guys in the states fitting v8s to mk1s but never estates.
Anyway more retro content... This Hillman estate v8 it pretty much the perfect example, anyone got any Marina's or Cortina estates?
Pie in the sky idea but hoping some of you guys here might be into it.
Chris

Triumph 2000 with a Stag V8 - was done when new by Des Lines Vauxhall Victor (any, but I once saw a beautiful V8 FD estate) Volvo 145 or 245 Merc W123 - I quite fancy doing a 560TE one day...

The task is much easier if you start with a RWD car (that much is probably obvious). A RWD V8 Focus sounds an awesome idea, but engineering it, plus the BIVA aspect, complicate things mightily. What about a Scimitar Grand Touring Estate?

Depends how much custom fab you want or are capable of doing really, how handy are you?
An easier option would be an e34 touring. My choice would be an e30 touring with a 4.4 v8 but they requie a fair amount of work.

What about adapting a Focus estate shell onto an unmodified Scimitar SE6 chassis ? Focus wheelbase is around 0.19" (104" v 103.81") longer so not a massive difference Paul h

535 and 540 variants available. 530. The 535 wasn't a V8 in the E34, and was never offered as a Tourer.

Kugel do a bolt in kit to V8 a Focus, using a Fox Mustang axle iirc. They weren't as spendy as you'd imagine iirc.

don't some people just put a focus onto a sierra floor? Actually what's wrong with a Sierra estate ? There was the South African XR8 so most of the "design" work already exists. Paul h

Actually what's wrong with a Sierra estate ? There was the South African XR8 so most of the "design" work already exists. Paul h quite rare? dunno, only problem i can think of. I didn't mean find a genuine XR8 but rather follow the path Ford used. From Wiki - "The XR8 was fitted with the 302 ci engine from the US Ford Mustang, and the Borg Warner T5 heavy duty transmission. Front brakes were AP Racing four-piston calipers on 280 mm discs. Max power is 209 PS (154 kW) and a top speed of 225 km/h (140 mph) was claimed" Another alternative is use an adapter plate to mount a Rover V8 to either a Type 9 or MT75. In fact you could use a 4x4 as a base as that has a variant of the MT75. Google shows there is a firm who have developed an adapter. Paul H

There are very different ways of skinning a cat. There is a VW Polo hatch with a tansversely mounted Audi V8 lump driving the front wheels via a VR6 gearbox. This would fit the usual front drive estates like 80s Escort/Astra.
I'm sure the fwd Ferrari engined Lancia Thema could give up it's running gear for an old Fiat estate, and there must be other examples.
Not quite what the topic starter had in mind I'm sure, but still.

What a machine, 32v n/a in its first incarnation then later a 40v with a big blower and an intercooler wedged into the vee.
