Also some news on possibly finding the dealer that sold it, the VG suffix on the plate points it to the Norwich DVLA office, the Renault dealer there is now known as Holden Renault but back then was Reliance Garage.

I've found this mock up of a dealer sticker on a chaps R5 rebuild on Pistonheads but now I need to find someone with some original plates from the 1990's so I can get the logo and details copied and then reproduced by Retro Plates.. (check out instagram for them).

It is the original type S9U in here, 100% mechanical, no electronics at all, which I like very much... but you're right, does need more stonk..

Interesting history on the S9U, this 2.5L version was already the third displacement change for it and it went on to be enlarged twice more up to 3.0L.

This one uses the 8140.07 version that makes a whole 76hp at 4000rpm and Renault used on the early models of Messenger, Master and Trafic.

Used in all sorts including up to 2005 on the Fiat Ducato and 2004 on the Iveco Daily.. and still in production right now for FPT - Fiat Power Train as a marine engine.. 

The thing I would like to know is was there a compression ratio change between the NA and turbo 2.5L motors and if so, by how much..

I would generally be expecting a low-blow turbo set-up to appear soon, but you're not one for the expected, so I'm gonna guess a V9X 3.0 v6 diesel with full standalone control...

This is so cool.....and I'm liking what you've done so far.....I do love an old commercial truck of any kind.

22 years ago when I was a young mechanic, I use to regularly service/repair two Mk1 Renault Master long wheel base ex-ambulances that were both being used by local rock and folk bands to haul their gear around. Those van's were huge! I remember taking them out for test drives. Everytime I'd end up riding up over the kerb and onto the pavement at junctions because of forgetting how long the wheel base was. I also remember them being really slow....although not as slow as my n/a 2.4 LT35 is.....was.....I think??? 🤔🤔

Now....I've had a read through and given your track record, I was suprised not to see OM606 mentioned??? 🧐 😎 ( maybe it was....but I missed it? ) One of those should solve the get up and go issue!

I don't know a great deal about things, but that's a Sofim engine like you say as used in the Iveco Daily, which means the turbo versions should be fairly easy to come by and also turn up a touch. Whether you can +T an NA engine or not I really don't know...

Bookmarked for the ride and very much looking forward to the addition of rear bodywork, I'm pretty sure I can picture what you have in mind

Not sure if this helps at all, the original pictures are on turborenault if you need to look closer

Day 1 of back in Devon... bomb up to Black Torrington with a grinder, a ton of cutting discs and £40.





That got me two rear wings including the rear light housings (one lense smashed, one wing rotten, one wing really rotten) and a bunch of small parts including a genuine Renault Master Mk1 door pocket! I was pretty excited about this actually. Matching weird blueish plastics.





Proof of concept.



These were fricking expensive but work superbly on horse lorries I have seen... Hella made docking lights.









Plasma'd the steel to make the locker doors out of..



Also had these bad ass reproduction plates made by Retro Plates off of instagram... hopefully my sleuthing skills are on point and I got the right garage it was sold from!

Not a lot of room to work in on this side, as the wheels are off being banded so I can't move it... doh!

And the banded steels are finished! 2.5 inches into these.

Not going to lie, this was a whole day to get this side smoothed out to be good enough for a commercial Renault.



Rear light in on this side.







Getting the ramp trays back underneath the truck and remaking the supports for this and integrating them into the rear number plate surround too.









Back to the passenger side, some more repairs and the rear lights sectioned and in.







The front end with closure plates on the end of the box section and some plating in the lockers that the ply sides can back onto where it is not already right angle section.
