hey wicked, my old car! glad to see its gone to a good home!
just to say for the easy engine swap option, if you bolt crossflow mounts to a pinto, it then drops straight in on the viva subframe mounts (just gotta play about with the sump drop), like my old 4 door before this one. i don't suggest going down the CA route, as with my old coupe, as that was a lot of hassle for not a huge gain!

Man this car has been round all the members on here! Just as a side note dude the head on there was NOS when i had it about 18months ago, was still wrapped up in original Vauxhall grease paper and what not, so would be unobtanium now - hold on to it if you do the engine swap.

Wow.......Nice to hear from you Mike and as for engine swaps unless a pinto falls into my lap I'm not gonna go in that direction as I'm a bit of a hardcore vaux nut and feel a nicely tweaked 2.0 8-valve motor would do the job for me ;D Tigran - Thanks for the info on the head,i'll make sure that stays if the engine gets sold as I'm prob gonna have another viva of chevette in the future(just love 'em ) I plan on giving this one the love and attention it deserves as bodywise its on the edge......spare wheel well, sills and rear floors need attention soon. My welding aint the best but i intend to do all the work myself, just gotta get myself a welder! More to follow as it happens Steve

SMALL UPDATE I'm still without a job,and the car is still sat in the garage in bits! The deal with the Carlton fell through so no 8-valve motor BUT i have the option of a cheap c16xe 16valve motor from an early corsa gsi which with some love and care(and twin 45's ;D) may just do the job for now as i can build around this as this is classed as a "big block" motor so can still change to 8-valve as and when i find one worth having......these engines may be small but are still capable of good figures, just junking the O.E inlet system should yield a good 20-25bhp Just gotta wait for my mate as he works in the RAF and don't know when he's home next. More as it happens Steve

Tigran - Thanks for the info on the head,i'll make sure that stays if the engine gets sold as I'm prob gonna have another viva of chevette in the future(just love 'em ) hi mate just wanted too let you know the head that tigran talks of,is not on that car anymore. i had the car after tigran and replaced the engine which i got from black8driver! glad to see you are getting it up together and hav plans for it! i was so gutted to let this car go,but i got married and money was tight so it had to go! you have a bloody SOLID viva there, keep on to it and don't make the mistake i made by selling it! ps..if you ever want to sell, please give me first refusal..(serious mate)

WOW! Is there anyone else on this forum thats had this car?!?!?! Sounds very much like the town bike..........but its mine now and i intend to keep this one, when we first moved out here(a few miles from Bath),the first car to place itself in the garage was my blue 76' 2dr 1300L so this isnt my first time in the company of Viva's. But at the time i was only 16 and never really did anything with it so it was scrapped, still got the front bumper, passenger+rear seats(in blue) and the grill thats now on the this one. As for progress.......not much this week due to jobseeking! Started doing some of the bodywork as the car had a nasty scar on the o/s/r wing and various scabs and dents all over the car including a weird patch on the roof, ive cleaned alot on the o/s and have tried to beat out the wing as best as i can and am now in the process of building it up with filler but its taking me forever and I'm already lossing paitence with it.........anyone local good with bodywork? Mobile? Cheap(i can pay with beer, fags, special favours)?

Hi guys & gals Not much has changed on the car recently accept for a bit of filler applied to the many little dings and dents and prepping some bits that need welding which hopefully Si (black8driver) will be helping me with. Ive been thinking about all the possible options of engine to put in the car and although id like a high revving 4cyl motor, finding one cheap and building it up to a spec I'm happy with just aint gonna happen this side of summer........I'm also partial to a nice Rover V8 but since I have the Land-Rover with my ideal 3.9 engine that aint an option either. Sooooooo.....................I'm considering a more radical approach to the subject as id like the car to be a daily driver and be economical (I'll build something fast later, I promise ;D), I'm in talks over a potential powerplant which will cover the economical side and possibly a little bit of power as well but I'm not gonna reveal what it is just yet.............. Reason being that all the hardcore Viva nuts on here are possibly gonna flame me I shall update more as and when ive got said motor Steve

Interested to see what ends up under the bonnet. I was considering a Corsa 1.2/1.4 on a Carlton box but finding a Carlton box turned into a right mare so gave up.
Mine will be back together in March with a bit of luck so i'll drop by.
