Well my Magnum and Coggers' Firenza are both at least that low and it does make such a huge visual difference. Hard to beat a good bit of rake too though, is it Craig on here who has the gold firenza wiht the classic 70's stance?
Your black wheels look great against the colour of the paint man, its got such a menacing look about it!

Thanks mate, there was I considering changing the colour of the car at some point but I may just get it resprayed maroon again. You are correct, Craig has got the correct(in my eyes) 70's stance and I may attempt to replicate it but part of me wants it on the floor! Ohhhhh decisions decisions, who knows what its gonna look like!
Whatever happens, its getting a front spoiler like yours and Coggers, havent seen one fitted to a square-headlamp model yet so look forward to getting it.

Steve Now you come to mention it , don't think I have either Be interesting to see it fitted , could look very cool I reckon. Nice to see the Corsa rear springs being put to better use.......

Well its all gone wrong!!!!!!!!!! I'm officially propper skint so no engine for me :-( :-( Had to back out of buying the TD lump so will be putting the transplant on the backburner for the forseeable future. I will attempt to give the 1256 some love and sort out the bodywork for the summer and look into the whole thing again later in the year :-(

Ah feck it, look as long as its still going that's the main thing - you can change the engine when funds allow, you're more than welcome aboard the good ship skint!

Hello everyone Things have been moving slowly as of late due to still not finding work but having sold a few things including one of my motorcycle fleet ive managed to get a few things sorted and obtained some go-faster bits for the little 1256 ;D First up, bodywork I hate doing anything with dents, rust or paint but since every now and again I can do a decent filler job(depends on time of year and how much ive drank ) I thought id attempt to sort out the nasty crease in the o/s/r quarter but after spending several hours and using half a tub of filler it looked worse than before i started........ok then, i'll just move on to the next couple of dents on the o/s/r door.............couldnt do that either! Sorted an interesting dent on the roof easily and have now decided I'm gonna leave the body alone and let someone with some actual skill sort it out properly so for now ive chucked a couple of coats of primer on until I can afford someone to sort it Heres the rear quarter Since i had taken the front-end apart to sort the headlights out i decided to take out the indicators and give the front of the car a couple of coats of satin black just to see how it would look and i like it I may paint the bonnet black aswell, any opinions? Sorry for the cack pics but havent sorted my camera out yet I found a Mountney steering wheel boss on eblag going cheap so grabbed that and dug up one of my spare wheels to go in the car but for some unknown reason the wheel is very close to the indicator/wiper stalks so may make a spacer up out of an old boss ive got kicking about Got the head skimmed finally and chucked that on last night, and got it running briefly this morn but since I don't have a water-tight radiator at the mo I'm restricted to a couple of mins of running at a time. Craig has given me the option of "borrowing" his old rad for now so may take him up on the offer Who likes my yellow engine And now on to the good stuff! I managed to win a single weber/dellorto manifold off good ol' eblag which i then bought a Dellorto to go on it BUT being the dunce that i am, i didnt ask enough questions nor do enough research on the matter and i bought the wrong carb basically this one will only run properly on motors 1500 upwards so that was some of my precious money wasted..........good thing then that i found a weber dcoe40 off a chevette 1256 ;D got it cheaper than the dellorto as well! That will be going on when ive got a gasket kit for it, some trumpets, a facet pump and sorted out a linkage which I'm gonna make from bits of viva/chevette. Ive also got a oil cooler take-off kit to go on as I'm gonna try and preserve this engine(its cost me enough!) so that I can at least make something back off it when it comes to selling, just need a cooler now but got my eye on one so prob have that next week. I aint got any pics but ive been playing with the idea of fitting the original Viva chrome wheeltrims onto the wellers, it would involve making some brackets but otherwise it should be easy and look good with the dish of the wheels. I'll try and get a pic up tomorrow. Cheers Steve

Just a small update. After saturday's visit to Area52 i was fired up to get a few jobs done, first being working out a home-made linkage setup for the Weber as i aint paying the 70odd quid alot of places want! After searching thru my stocks i found my spare chevette stromberg which had a cable mounting bracket that bolts to the front of the carb.......i proceeded to chop it up until it fitted the weber It still needs work to clear the trumpet when fitted but you get the general idea. When i got the weber it had been modified in the past with an odd linkage arm onto the throttle spindle and part of it had been riveted to the arm, i simply drilled out the rivets out and opened one of the holes out to take a standard viva pin fitting so it now all works with the standard throttle cable......easy to put back to standard in the future if needed Checked it on the car and the leverage aspect is perfect, pedal on the floor equals full throttle at the carb.......PERFECT ;D And today i put the headlights back in, i had attempted to refurb one on the cheap and it hasnt really worked as that one doesnt throw a beam anymore so on the lookout for a pair of headlights cos the other one is cack too. But its looking tidy now I have just put the bumpers back on but forgot to get a pic. More hopefully tomorrow as i will have a couple of gaskets for the carb turning up and should have a radiator to go in so i can fire it up for awhile so i can re-torque the head. Steve

He he he..........I got a weber ;D and it WORKS! I did do a little video of it running but for some reason I cant get photobucket to upload it but it sounds nice stood still I promise It does have a little stutter when you floor the throttle but I suspect its gonna need some fiddling once its been driven anyway so will attend to that when the time comes I'm sooooooooooooo happy now, ive always wanted a weberDCOE-powered car and now I have one! Its ready for a test drive but its p***ing down so not gonna happen until the weekend I'll let you all know how it goes. Steve

Glad to be a help, so did it fire straight up or did you have to fiddle with the carb? I don't think it'll drive that good and you should sell me the manifold ;D ;D

Thank you gents ;D As for Craig having my manifold...........get ur own ;D I hunted for this one, keep an eye on eblag and not just under viva, they generally come up for chevette. I don't think that cam of yours is gonna work with a standard motor, and since mine is better than yours ;D it really needs to be in my car...........i have a whole argument writen down somewhere that says I'm right ;D Edit: Oh yea, and as for it starting it went more or less without any fiddling but will need a proper tune up as its not idling very smoothly and has a stutter when you floor the throttle

I want my rad back ;D
I think you may be right about the cam to be honest. I've been warned all the 1256 performance cams came with uprated followers. I've broken the "new cam, new followers" rule of engine building and used the old followers but i don't really have a choice. It's one of many worries i will be worrying about on long worrying journeys.
Still, if it blows it blows. Plenty more engines to choose from.

I couldnt wait for dry weather so sneaked out for a test drive and i must report its a 90% success It has a hicup at low rpm which clears once you get above 3000rpm and from then on pull like a train ;D right upto 5700-6000rpm also the idle is all over the place but i was expecting that. I'm thinking that the ignition system is letting it down cos its never been happy getting up to 6000 but its not a big issue for me as I'm sure the power is dropping off well before then anyway. Me happy, car happy! Now i need to prep the car for MOT as its due late march Steve

Small update. Last week I had the n/s/r wheel off so that I could attack the arch as it was catching when I went over bumps and at the same time I tried one of my standard wheeltrims...... I like it ;D ....... so much so that I intend to make the brackets up as soon as the car has a fresh mot, which is due next month Since putting the weber on ive done a few miles in it and I'm impressed with the noise it makes and the way it pulls through the gears but ive still got this nasty stutter at about quarter throttle and it leaks fuel when stopped after a run. Today I took the carb off and replaced almost all the gaskets and the internal filter as it was all donkeys years old and changed the Misab washers for nylex spacers with rubber o-rings as I didnt like the carb bouncing up+down at idle. The result of these bits and pieces is that it doesnt leak anymore and seems to idle better(after a bit of a tweak), the stutter is still there but I'm sure its just down to a jetting issue which I hope to sort before the rolling road day in april. Hoping to get a couple of patches welded this weekend over at Area52 ............. we shall see Steve
