Hi all Been lurking in the shadows for some time now......but now feel the time is right to put up my motor   Bought in July on eblag with a truly well used(read-SHOT) engine for a small sum,got her home and within a week I had removed said boat anchor,stripped it down and had the crank reground with the rods resized due to a spun big end. While the crank was away I got the block washed and painted it along with anything else that looked drab. Got the crank back within a couple of days and promptly started putting it all back together again  After a small mishap involving the cam pulley bolt trying to make its way out of the timing case,I got it all setup and back on the road and have done 2000odd miles in it since rebuild. Before it was put back into use I changed the 155 front and 175 rear tyres as the stretch look didnt suit the car at its present ride height and put 205/60's and 185/60's on to the 8-spokes that came with the car........I love the look but needs to be dropped  Plans are for either a 8valve c20seh/ne or pinto transplant using the type 9 ford box.......to be done as and when I'm back in constant employment as ive been recently made redundant. the pics make it look better than it really is(don't they always!),pitty it doesnt go as well as it looks,although it does have a stainless side-exit exhaust so it sounds nice!
Me thinks its going to end up with a turbo with whatever engine goes in next.......fun fun!

Welcome along! And welcome to Viva ownership - there's a few of on here with different variations on the Viva theme (ie, include Firenza's and my Magnum!!). There's a good source of parts on here too and plenty of people with more knowledge than me about them!

and welcome to the forum..
that viva u bought from my bruv mike it was from a guy off this forum (sorry i forget who brain fade?!) and prev to that was owned by our very own tigran off here too.. so it is back home now...
its looking great and i see you about in it regularly as in just over in norton...
if you want to swap another engine in it I'm happy to help ive done a few convertions and love vivas.. (u prob seen my old mattblack turbo coupe about also? that we fitted a ca18det inside..)

Thanks for all the kind words gents  Coggers - Groovy it most deff is,will be even more so when i have one of those spoilers like yours on it(I'm SL1256 off the Viva forum ;D) Black8driver - Thanks for the offer mate,I'm sure a spare pair of hands may come in handy when i start doing the conversion. Never got the chance to see your c18det'd monster but have spoken to Slammed66 about it. Small world eh! Craig - I've seen your gold viva coupe in frome,must have been before you started doing the paintwork,i had just come out of the petrol station next to the train station in my old blue Landy V8 and caught a glance of it in my rear view........the slots look awsome dude It seems that my plans may begin a bit sooner than i thought,ive been offered a type 9 box today from a mate and i may be buying a cheap Carlton 2.0 for the engine so watch this space........ Howdy everyone  Last week the Viva was given its spot in the garage for a little bit of head gasket attention due to the radiator going pop and then me nursing it for several weeks with it blowing water out everywhere(10mile trip - 4 stops to refill  ). This is how she looks now:   I'm the indecisive type who can never decide what he's doing at any given time.......and as such i don't know if i should bother getting the head skimmed and recore the radiator OR just hoof the lot out in readyness for some 8-valve love ;D What to do eh?? But since i had nothing better to do,yesterday i had a crack at replacing the rubber u/j between the steering rack and column but that wasnt exactly five mins work,as the bottom pinch bolt seemed bent as it would not come out so with limited space to swing a hammer at it i decided to take the whole rack out and do it on the floor  Gave the pinch bolt a little tap and out she came! I'm sorta glad i took the whole rack out as when i went to fit my NOS coupling assy to the rack,i then find that it has no splines in the rack end! Would have been a proper pain in the ass as you have to tap the coupling onto the column first then down onto the rack so would have taken twice the amount of time. Luck would have it that a while ago i bought a new rubber to fit the coupling so split the remains of the old one off and fitted that instead. Heres a pic to explain why i had to change it:  Last night ended with the rack being refitted,and all thats left is to change a track rod end and re-centre the steering wheel. Craig - I'm prob gonna use the type 9 i've been given as the carlton box is huge and i'd have to chop out more transmission tunnel than i want so will prob give you a shout when its here. |
