If you added up the costs for parts for this Trabi it would be well over the asking price, let alone the man hours that went in to it over ten years. If you took this car to a concourse event you would win, it really is that good.

	Today I visited my friend who owns this. And I have to say it really is stunning in the flesh. It really is like a brand new car that has just rolled off the production line. So far he has had a few stupid offers from Mainly from Germans trying their luck. Also if any body needs a engine for a Wartburg he has a brand new factory motor up for grabs.

	This car has been restored over the last 10 years. Trabant’s were only made in this colour for one year, which makes this a very rare example. It has been rebuilt to the original specifications and all parts used are new old stock factory items collected over a number of years. Every part that was used was a item that was correct for the year the car was produced. The engine is a 2 stroke 600cc air cooled twin. Which was fully stripped and rebuilt with new parts. The car is currently SORNd and has all the correct paperwork so it can be registered if imported from Hungary. 	Looks like the under-seal did a pretty good job of protecting the underside of the car. As well as hiding the mattress.

	Nice but I know what you mean about the wheels. I think it needs some wheels that are of a simple design and chrome.

	So when I come to visit you, which of the two houses will you be in. The main house or the dog house? You could always say to the wife that the Citroen wasn’t well and you had to put it in to the recovery position. And of course you can’t just leave him on a cold damp floor.So you needed the mattress to keep him warm and comfortable, while you perform emergency surgery with a angle grinder and a welder. What bit of furniture are you going to use to put the body back on?

	How about plan C. Replace the chassis with a new one to get it on the road. Then you can restore the original as and when you have time. Once it’s done you can reunite it with the original body. You could then use the new chassis to build a 2CV pickup.
