So last December I brought this little Trabi as a runaround for when we go out to Hungary to see the wife's family. I have wanted to own one of these little cars for a long time,but Mrs Austinpowers made it clear that we already have too many cars. But now we have decided that it would be a good idea to have a car out there to get about. So after a lot of searching the web we found Tommy in a village not far away from the wife's home town. Mrs Austinpowers cousin went out to look over Tommy and haggle on the price, which in the end was about £600. And so deal was done and Tommy was driven back to the mother-in-law's house and put into the garage. I was informed by our family that Tommy was in mint condition and drove very well.
So some six months later I finally get to meet Tommy in the flesh.

Hang on that's not right, steering wheels moved. ( check out those knitted seat covers ).

A quick test drive around the block to get use to the dash mounted gear change.


Who needs sat-nav,air con,cruse control ,rev counter, or even a fuel gauge?

Talking of fuel gauges, here it is ;D

Now that's what I call back to basic motoring, 600cc two-stroke in line twin with gravity fed fueling.

And if you look close you can see the transverse leaf spring. But the rear has coil springs.

So what's hiding under the seat covers then.

Mint seats that's what.

So after two weeks of driving Tommy around the Hungarian countryside I can say that it's one of the most fun cars I have ever owned. And every where we went people wanted to look at Tommy and tell us how they haven't seen one that good for a long time. Trabant's
are getting few and far between now in Hungary so people are starting to appreciate them more.

You can pick one up for about £1000 in Hungary, there's still a lot of them about out there.

I would go for the tina as it's just to cool a car to not fix.

I see a lot of them over in Hungary and they are sold for scrap prices.
