The head gasket normally goes through neglect. People top up the rad with water but forget to put antifreeze in. The head gasket then gets damaged and rots away between the water ways resulting in a blown gasket. I'm also 6ft2 with size 10 feet and I have no problem driving the wife's Fiat chinq sporting, and yes they really are that much fun to drive. and this is are little toy.  |

It might work better on something like a Mk1 Citroën Berlingo van as its a bit more curvy.

Thanks to Si and the rest of the gang for a entertaining day. as before my FTO was pants and needs some investigation as to where my BHP has gone. So next time I think I will bring the Fiat chinq for a bit of fun. Also I am glad to here that the cavalier made it back ok, it was quite impressive seeing it disappear in a cloud of tyre smoke with the bonnet up in the air.

I had a MK1 with a 2.1 pinto, it was one of the most entertaining cars I have ever owned. And even by today's standard it was a quick motor.

What bhp do these make,i would take a guess of 30/35bhp.Any pics of engine? 30/35bhp would be wishful finking, thay only produce 9&1/2 bhp. |

My other half had one not long ago but the engine cooked its self and that was the last straw.
It spent More time off the road than on it, one bit of advice, the drive box that selects forward and reverse is splash lubricated. if the oil level drops it will go bang in a big way, and you will struggle to find a second hand one for less than £250-£500.
The drive box has a breather pipe and the old one's like yours was to short and the oil came out the top and wrecked the box. On mine I put a longer pipe on the box and that was the only part that never gave me any problems.
On a positive note I love what you are doing to yours and if you you need any advice on this toy car just give me a shout.

I can remember a mate of mine had a 1300GT in black, that thing was bloody quick for a standard car. Its a shame you don't see many of these Fiats any more, but I suppose most of them have rusted away a long time ago.

I agree with Volksangyl, the rake looks good as it is. Thou as the rest of the car comes together it will change how the car looks and you might want to adjust it again then.
