A little bit more has been done on the Golf, today. Managed to finish the wiper arms off, and get them fitted (Much better) Also put the side repeaters on (which lasted for about two minutes, as they are wibblepoo - new ones coming on Thursday) New clips on the fuel filter pipes, also. Also, sprayed all of the lower part of the doors and front wing/sills, as well. Here's before: And now: (Sorry for the bad pic - I was on my back!) Found a nice little bit of arch missing at the bottom of the OS rear one. My attempt at a repair: Came out ok, I thought And a picture of the car with everything clipped back on: Getting there! Just need to finish painting the bottom of the doors on the other side, the rear arch, and the rear panel, as well. After that, she's off to the MOT EDIT: Just noticed how pants the old wheels look!

Right, I've been back with the car today. Managed to sort out the rear panel (The primer went a bit "bandy" though) Not a great job, but better than it was........ What's the best thing to get over spray off a black bumper? (Oops.....) And I've sorted the NS doors and sills (Ran out of paint AGAIN!!) And the arch repair was also finished (Just found out today that the other side is just as bad!) I'm also a having a mare attaching the side repeaters onto the car. Tried two sets and they refuse to clip on. I'm going to have to glue them on I think. Was wondering about using this stuff (and for the badges) www.homebase.co.uk/en/homebaseuk/gorilla-superglue---15g-831653Is it any good? Thanks for looking

Pretty sure those side repeaters are the same as my 924 ones? In which case it's just a case of popping the front in then the back and sliding the thing back to hold it in place with the clip

I might give that Tiger Seal stuff a try, EB. Many thanks. I did try and "slide" the repeater back, bagga. It just refuses to "engage" the clip of the on the other end. Even took the arch skin off, so I could get my hand underneath to figure out what was happening. It's odd, because I fitted the same ones on my mate's Jetta. Took me one minute.......... Well, at least it's getting closer to the MOT. Cheers for the assistance, everyone

try trimming the end of the bit that goes into the hole in the wing, i always had trouble swapping 'em and that usually did the trick

Here's today's daft question of the day. I've bought some underseal to use on the car tomorrow. Should I remove all the arch skins in the wheel arches before I brush it on? Or should I just blend the underseal in up to the edges of the plastic? Should I also attempt to do any of the floor as well? Or will that look dodgy to the MOT tester?(Might think I'm trying to hide something.........) EDIT: Is there a trick to putting wiper blade arms back on? When I try mine after putting them back on in the right place (or so I think) they end up cleaning the bonnet! Cheers

What type of underseal is it? Bilt Hamber?
I think you know the answer really...a proper job would mean taking the liners off and pressure washing/scrubbing every last speck of crud out of there before applying any underseal - otherwise you're just trapping muck in there. It's a messy, slow and (sometimes) smelly job.
And when you say floor, do you mean outside or inside? Same principal really - if underneath then wear a hat, goggles and expect to get grubby with cramped arms. I had a crack at a Camper once...urgh...
Wiper blades? Installation is the reversal of removal - slide the arm through the new one then click into place? Kinda hard to explain without actually seeing/doing it...worst comes to the worst take them to the garage when you're doing the MOT - only a rather overzealous tester would fail them if you point out you've got them there ready to fit. Although my sister's old Felicia failed a test for having dice hanging from the mirror instead of removing them. Arseholes.

Bit of an update. Today I got the wipers back on (I'd taken the whole wiper off - hence the stupid question above!) I just needed to re-align the wipers with the spline. Job done. No luck looking at the brakes, as the lady at work forgot her trolley jack that I'd asked to borrow - happy days. Managed to spray the steel wheel that arrived today (Still awaiting the other) Went to start on my friend's steel wheel that he was donating to me, only to find out that it a "12 hole" steel not a "16 hole" So, now I'm one short again! The roof and bonnet were "T-cutted" by my mate Tezza (Did a good job, too) And I buggered another set of side repeaters. Where can I get a set of them (smoked) that will fit my car? I've tried Eurowagens and Radioworld, and both of the sets broke! They just refuse to lock in. And I really like the Eurowagens ones, as well

Just managed to speak to the previous owner, after finding their details online. Was told that the car was meant to be scrapped! She seemed quite shocked it was still around. At least where they live is a nice area! Found the car on Google maps parked outside their house a few years back She's going to look around and see if there's any history for it. At least she said it was a good runner.........

Sounds like a bit of patter just to knock the price down...I've sold cars to a 'scrapper' only for it to reappear at 3 times the price...

Phew, cheers for the "calming" words, Paul.
As for the MOT, I have been away for most of the last two weeks, so nothing's been done with the car. Hoping to get over to see it at the weekend, and crack on with the arch repairs etc. Still waiting on two steel wheels that I've bought for the car, but the two sellers haven't replied back to PMs etc.
Oh, and I've blagged a good trolley jack off a mate at work, so I'll have the wheels off and see if there's anything underneath!

Just out of interest , are you the sort of person who buys a house , then starts extending it without planning permission ....?

Managed to get the side repeaters fitted today. And finished the rear arch repairs and under-sealing in there as well.

A little bit more of an update. Sadly, the seller on ebay I was buying a "16 hole" steel wheel off of, has had to give me a refund, as it "went missing" So I'm still one short......Well two, just waiting for the right-honourable Dez of this parish to give me an update on the one I bought from him Oh, and a bit of a quandary about the MOT. I have been offered by a bloke who runs a garage local to where the car is stored (about 500 yards away!) and who has seen me tinkering with the car an MOT "pre check" for £30. And least that way I know what's wrong with the car, and have had lots of offers from nice people on here, and elsewhere to help me with any repairs. The garage doesn't do MOTs, though. This leads me to my next problem................... I can't get it into the garage that I wanted to use for the MOT, as I won't be able to take the car one afternoon, and wait with it (My works are a nightmare to get any time off) And there's no other MOT stations within five miles of my mate's house! My mate who's looking after the car, has suggested a garage that he uses, and it is close to my works, and I could leave it there overnight, but I think they've taken him for a ride in the past (Over £300 to fit a new heater matrix in a mk2 Jetta?!) So, do I chuck it in for a "pre MOT" and then by hook or by crook, do the work myself, then sling it in? Or just bite the bullet and use my mate's fav garage? (Who'll take me for a small fortune) Just wish I knew of a decent garage in Cambridge who wouldn't take the mickey! Cheers

The general consensus on here is that a pre-MOT is a waste of time and money when the actual MOT will highlight the same issues...perhaps an appeal on the general board for a decent garage in Cambridgeshire would find a good one?

Many thanks, yet again, Mr Paul (How's the Polo coming along?) Just wondered if by doing the pre MOT I could do some of the work myself, rather than taking it for an MOT (then if it fails) losing interest and just paying to get it sorted. I'll put up a plea on the general board ASAP
