Not content with my newly aquired Mk1 MR2 Turbo, I recently decided to combine my lust for a V6 with my desire for Mk1 T-bar. Details of the Mk1 Turbo can be seen here: retrorides.proboards86.com/index.cgi?board=readersrides&action=display&thread=53505Once I had decided I wanted to go ahead with the V6, I sourced a 3.0 V6 Camry from Norwich (roadtrip details here: retrorides.proboards86.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=54612) and also found time to view/put a deposit on a nice Mk1 T-bar on the way home from picking up the Camry (details in the Camry thread) Yesterday I made a little road trip down to Rochester to meet up with Grizz, Oldbus & Totti and also collect some wheels that Oldbus had kindly brought over with him from Germany (thanks again Dude.... ;D) I decided it would make sense to stop en-route (homeward journey) and pick up the little MR2, so hired a car trailer and headed off to meet up with Rian, Dave & Thorsten.....ready to collect the MR2 on the way back home today. I took the Camry because it is a great mile muncher and is also the donor vehicle carrying the MR2's new engine, so I thought it would be nice to make a journey with the two of them together. Here are the shots of the MR2 loaded up onto the car trailer on my way home....the current owner, an 80yr old gentleman, just couldn't get in & out of it anymore but was really sad to see it go: The Camry does make a great towing car and it was nice to know that the vehicle it was towing will be soon running its engine! Finally back in Bristol and pulled up outside my new unit which I signed the deal on yesterday: Off the trailer and into my new unit....plenty of space in there for working on cars....boy am I happy with it! It's not a bad little car at all. All original, LOADS of history and from what I can tell, not too much rust (needs two new front wings, but the rest seems pretty solid) The Camry will have the engine pulled out in the next few weeks before going on to become the RR 'group build' project car....and the MR2 will have a good once over before having it's engine pulled ready for the V6. More updates to follow as the build starts & progresses.....

Very NIIIIICE Bruce.
Glad the trip went better than the 5 plus hours it took yesterday to do what is less than a 3 hr trip.
Looking forward to the "Area L 300 Secret Bunker " filling up with tat and non tat type treasures soon.

Thanks Rian, The bunker will be looking suitably filled with metal very soon. Making a few trips down there this weekend. I forgot to put a big thank you to Ms Grizz for the tea and donuts! They were scrummy! Give her a big MM hug from me... Off to check my PM's

Beautiful place! What I would give.... Yeah, I know what you mean. It took me a few months of work to get everything sorted on it with the lease/paperwork etc....(first viewed it beginning Dec!) but I am over the moon to have so much space. Yeah, how much is that for rent? Been offered a three car storage with electric/plumbing for 80 quid a week. I should be able to get at least six cars in there and still have room to work on each one, plus there is a large secure store, office and toilet as well as a secure yard at the front. £200 per month plus electricity. It's a lot of space for the money. Needs some TLC but I can't wait to make it my own little space. I've got a load of stuff I'm going to kit the office out with (sofa's, kettle, microwave etc...) and my tools will gradually be finding my way down there....good times! Very nice. Did you get the new wheels too? Oh yes - two new sets of wheels currently sat in the back of the CamRRy. Oldbus is an absolute legend and a big thanks to him for bringing them over from Germany for me. One set I bought brand new and just need some tyres...they are a design which you never see on J-tin which is why I went for them. The other set is a very rare, very sought after wheel that I've never seen on anything other than a VW or Audi. Looking forward to seeing both sets on a little J sports car. Details of the wheels will follow once I get them fitted.... ;D Thanks again for the comments guys.

Quick update on this:
The CamRRy donor car is still being used as a very handy parts lugger/load hauler, but is gaving the engine pulled out later this month. I've picked up some 3VZ-FE heads that have been ported and also a set of stainless tubular manifold. That lot should help bring the power up a bit!
For the MR2 itself, I'm probably going to get a new pair of front wings for it then get the bodywork sorted including a full de-badge, lose the rear spoiler and get some suspension work done to drop it a bit.
My new wheels for it are sat in the garage - they are just awesome, but I'll only be fitting them once all the engine/bodywork is near complete.
I hope to have this ready to roll in time for RRG09.
More to come when the work finally starts (trying to plan a god few days off work to get some serious hours on this...need to get started....)

fibreglass wings are what you need chap looking forward to seeing the camry lump wedged in I'm not too sure about the fibreglass ones - I'm sceptical about the fit & finish, let alone the quality of them. I've yet to see them in the flesh (fitted & painted) so not entirley ruling them out, but was more inclined to pick up some new ones from Toyota and have them zinc plated before being fitted/painted....no more rust issues with them ever. OEM fit & finish with peace of mind rust protection.

Progress update: Last shots of the Camry before the engine is pulled out - here it is in Newport at the garage where the conversion will be taking place. I'm not doing the whole job, but will be over there regularly to help with the conversion whenever I can (just taken 2 weeks out to get this moving) Here is it after its last drive on the V6: Engine just before the work starts: Engine stripped down enough to come out: As well as the engine, the ECU and main loom also needs to come out. I was told that the dash needed to be cut to get the ECU and loom out....but seeing as the Camry will hopefully live another life as the RR project car, I was reluctant for this to happen. I was told that removing the dash is quite a complicated affair, but was willing to give it a go in order to save chopping it to pieces. I started stripping the dash out and actually figured out a way to remove the ECU and main loom without cutting OR removing the dashboard. The whole procedure took around 30 mins - most of which was 'learning' what needed to be removed and also moving the aftermarket phone/hands free kit out of the way. I could do the job again in about 10 mins! There was a lot of surprise that I managed to do it so quickly and with no damage to the interior...just goes to show that the 'known method' isn't always the best, or even the qucikest! Here is the shot of where the ECU used to live (tucked right in the back behind the silver brakets and heater box) Next step will be to get the engine stripped down and get everything cleaned up/painted/neatened ready for its new home in the MR2. The ported heads are going to be rebuilt and tweaked in the next week or so and as you may have read, I have managed to pick up a set of stainless tubular manifolds for the engine (what are the chances of finding some tubular manifolds for an unusual, never modded V6 Camry engine??) More updates to follow.....
