Some of you may know from an earlier thread that I have bought this as my new daily driver; Its a 97 A6 with a 2.6 V6 engine. Its a big old thing, amazingly comfortable and smooth. Its obviously never going to be sporty, thats not why I bought it but as it makes a nice low thrum from that V6 I am thinking it would be nice to give it some amplification so that I can enjoy the engine noise a bit (best reason for a big V engine). Now I don't want to add the big bean tin back box as thats a bit chavvy but if I could get one with a nicer tail pipe and they are only about £40 would this, in you guys opinions be an option? I also thought about just getting rid of the back box and fitting a straight pipe but would this be hideously noisy? Shouldnt be too hard a job, as you can see the back box is right behind the bumper; And to make things even easier there is a join in the exhaust just before the back axle (if it hasnt rusted on) So what do you think? So far my idea is to try and find a scrapped A6, rob the back box section to fabricate a new tail section onto and that leaves me the original if it all turns failure. Cheers, Dave.

I know what you mean, Wishaw back to the motorway can be a real hassle as the Motherwell 1 way system will eat you if you go the wrong way and you end up going round it for ages. I havent gone a decent run in the Audi yet but I did floor the pedal yesterday and the trip computer was reading 9.4 mpg I'm hoping most of the time I can resist the urge and drive it sensibly which should get me about 30 mpg. I know what you mean and everything is solid, not even any surface rust. The seller was all worried as he hadnt told me about its 2 flaws. The Led behind the gear selector screen and outside temp screen don't work and are hard to read in the dark.......Thats it!
Did you get on OK with your purchase the other day?
Dave

I bought an Australian mesh visor for my Beetle which has since been aquired by Joanne for hers; I didnt notice any extra noise or fuel consumption but it is a beetle so both are bad to start with. Up here it comes in handier for keeping snow of the screen than as a sun visor ;D Dave

and three times less cool..! I agree and allthough I never thought I would say this, after driving a vento for a bit I have come to enjoy my true retro's a lot more. By having something reliable and a bit bland for day to day, the times where I do drive my fasty or van are much much more enjoyable. I don't have to worry about them, fix them as often or use them for the commute. All I need to do with them is take them out for fun. Dave.

;D Only 148bhp. I refer you to the VW air cooled post further up the thread.
148bhp is nearly 3 times as much as I have ever had in a car ;D

Cheers for the replies guys.
I have been running aircooled VW's for the past 11 years so the fuel economy cant be much worse than my camper van.....I hope.
Dave.

I have been offered a new daily and I am finding it hard to resist and was wondering if anybody has had past experience or words of warning. The car in question is a 1997 Audi A6 estate 2.6 V6 auto. Its huge, has a tow bar, FSH, 6 disk CD, air-con, low millage and has been very well looked after. All for under a grand I realise its gonna drink fuel and make trees weep but I don't do that many miles day to day and its taxed and tested for at least 6 months. So what do you guys think? Is it gonna cost me a packet or waft me along in luxury? For reference, it looks like this allthough these pics are a bit rubbish as google isnt throwing up many results. Any better pics or inspiration would be gratefully recieved. I'm thinking big TT rims and a mild drop VIP style. Cheers, Dave. P.S. As you can probably tell I have allready set my mind on getting it ;D

I collected the cars from the dealership yesterday so while they still had that showroom shine I took a few more pictures and thought I would post them up. Hope you like, Dave

Cheers guys and thankfully they are using them for honorable reasons rather than to promote the scrappage scheme. Arnold Clark is a big chain of dealers in Scotland and it is their awards weekend so all the dealerships have events and displays in them and this dealership wanted our cars. Apparently there has been at least one customer so far who has asked if the fasty is a new model Dave

Joanne and myself will be able to say our cars are fresh from the showroom next week; Dropped them off in Greenock on Tuesday and Joanne was loaned a new Polo to use in return and the cars got a full valet. Dave

I was feeling brave at the weekend and I let SWMBO drive my fastback; We were setting upmy marquee at Volksfling so it dosnt really count as she was in a field but was still the first time she was brave enough to have a shot. I got a couple of pics but pretty crappy quality; The black Beetle in the line up is Joanne's (SWMBO) daily. Had a great weekend, Dave.
