Front beam mounted to the floorpan. Quite happy with the way the wheels are sitting. The back is next. Lowering it looks pretty simple, the tricky part is getting the camber looking right.

Thanks to Royal Mail, my paint finally arrived after a fortnight. The wheels, floorpan and interior panels are done so I can get the chassis built.

^ would make an already slow vehicle even slower? Shame we didn't get the 2.4L engine like the US but got the 2L instead :-( Will they do 70? Later mk1s with 150ish bhp will do 70 easily. They will go a fair bit quicker but aren't very quiet above that speed. Mk2s aren't really any quicker but are a fair bit quieter.

Now that my wife and I have decided that we can't part with our Mk2, I'd love to do something similar.

I wasn’t 100% where to put this, so feel free to move if necessary. Anyway, series on bbc1 set in the 70’s, first episode had loads of proper cool cars 😀 Could anybody confirm what make and model this car is? Had a search but couldn't find the answer. Thanks Early Corolla?

Also did any one spot that the cars used in the police raid in Bangkok, was also the same ones used in the arrest in India. They just put lines down the side of the ones in India to try and make them look different. Guess that’s tv budgets for you & also they probably work on the basis that your average viewer won’t notice. Unlike your average petrolhead 😀. I’m a big fan of the Life on Mars series & have watched it lots. Trouble with doing that is, it kinda spoils it a bit, as you start seeing all sorts you didn’t notice first time around. There will be a particular car that is in one episode, in a starring role, if you like. You then notice that same car is in about 5 other episodes, just kinda hanging around in the background If you watch repeats of The Professionals you will see the same red MkV Cortina bring used by both CI5 and an assortment of swarthy villains in different episodes. I think we just notice this stuff. I find it adds to fun of it all. I have to say the 70s looks good on Jenna Coleman.

When I did planes as a kid, mine hung from the bedroom ceiling too. I used a torch as a spotlight like it was the blitz, but with a Wellington being chased by a Phantom in a completely different scale.
I recently put up a shelf in a quiet corner of my dining room. I reckon I can get 8 cars on it. At my current rate of one every six months, it should last the year.

My new project arrived earlier in the week. This is another one I never got around to when I was a kid. It's going to be Ford bermuda blue with a very light grey interior. I'm going to colour-code the wheels and tinware and drop it a bit. HBOL for a Mk2 Golf used as work platform to make it feel at home.

I remember the first time I saw one in sunny Salford. I don't read modern car mags so I had no idea what it was. I still love how they look.

Spotted by my daughter somewhere somewhere near Strangeways in Manchester. If that E21 isn't wanted, I'll have it! It's on a dealer's lot so it might be available. It was there on street view in 2018.

From my wife, though she refused to wrap them. A lad I work with reckons this is the most strange and boring Christmas present he's ever seen.

It's been 20 years since I last had something with a FWD CVH in it. From memory, there's a diaphragm somewhere on the back of that carb that splits and lets fuel dribble out which could be your fuel smell.
I can't really see the hoses in that picture.

So you've got the hoses to and from the engine joined together and the inlet and outlet for the matrix joined too?

Sounds like the heater matrix has been bypassed. Lower compression could be a head gasket issue but the crud in the breather could just be from short journeys. If it's on the road a good run may well clear that. How would i reconnect the heater? Somewhere on the bulkhead there will be two connectors sticking out with nothing connected to them. If you reconnect them at the moment, chances are all your coolant will end up in your footwells.

I watched all four last night and this morning. I enjoy JS' youtube stuff a lot. He does that rare thing when interviewing, and lets the interviewee talk away. Both come across really well and I'm glad they aren't fighting in the pitlane these days.

Firstly, what carb have you got?
Oil on start up could be valve stem oil seals. Sykes Pickavant and others used to sell a tool that allowed you to change them without taking the head off. You'd find one on eBay.
First step with the heater is find the hoses going to it and seeing if they are a) connected b) getting hot.
