Hello Chaps
As title really, I am after a super cheap Metro or 100.
I am based in the south east, so nothing hundreds of miles away ideally, unless its super cheap.
Ideally I would like a MPI but SPI or carb is fine, like I say anything considered but must be a 3 door.
If you have anything please do let me know. I would be more inclined to part with more for a Tahiti blue model.
Also the older the better for insurance purposes.
Thanks.

Hello Retro Rides. I did have a search through the forum prior to posting this, I managed to find a thread for the earlier MG metro, but not the Rover metro. I am looking at another project, but a short term kind of job. Nothing too involving, just a little bit of summer fun. I am a total mini nut, I love them, but their prices are going up to a point where they are getting a little silly which is what has made me start looking elsewhere. Now for some reason I got looking online last night and came across the trusty Rover Metro or the 100 of the same era, I think they are the same thing aren't they? Anyway, they seem to be incredibly cheap, I suspect the demand for them isn't overly high, and with the stupidly low scrap rate at the minute has resulted in some pretty cheap examples being advertised for sale. These seem to be an ideal candidate for a "budget" style project, which is exactly what I want. So to those of you who have owned them, or know more about the, what makes them cool? There has to be something, every vehicle has its own individual characteristic that stands it apart from the rest. Another reason for starting this thread is because I was hoping that maybe some of you have some interesting examples stashed away somewhere. Here are a couple I have found. This car used to be on another forum I used and at the time I loved it, I still like it a lot now, seems a perfect example of less is more. I think the colour is a winner as well, Tahiti Blue, always wanted a sportspack mini in this colour years ago when they were semi affordable. And why I want one Now looking from a potential project car point of view it would seem to me as though they have got a lot going for them. Earlier ones will qualify for classic insurance which is handy. Parts seem to be affordable and readily available, it seems as though parts from later models can me used, like brakes, engines and so on, PCD seems to be a common size so wheel choice should be plentiful, 13" sticky tyres are readily available and affordable, there is always a load of rovers/mgs in scrap yards so parts should surely be easily sourced. I understand they are prone to rot in the rear arches but replacement panels appear to be super affordable and readily available, plus I am used to minis, so I don't think there is much worse! So please share any impressive photographs and share any input you may have. Can these little things actually be any good?

I hate a stuck bonnet and unfortunately I have been on the receiving end of this predicament more than once.
Firstly I would apply some pressure to the bonnet, lift and push down, gently of course, don't want a bonnet dint! Whilst pulling repeatedly on the lever inside the car.
If no luck with this, remove the lever in the car, remove the wire from the back of the car and once again get someone to lift or push down on the bonnet whilst firmly pulling on the cable end from inside the car with a set of pliers on the cable.
If you have no success with that, or you pull the cable out (suggesting it has become snapped or unsecured from the latch end) see if you can get a long screwdriver inside the mech through the grill.
I had a seat Leon come in once and the only way I could get it off was by threading a length of wire trace from my tackle box under the bonnet, looping over the mech and pulling like a lunatic, it eventually gave and opened as it should.
Last and most recent one I did was a VW caddy, cable had snapped. I ended up removing the lower radiator shroud and using a long screwdriver to manually flick the latch open whilst laying on the floor and reaching up through the back of the bumper.
Once you go get it open, generously apply with GT85 or something similar, detach the cable and pour a bit of oil down the liner.
Good luck!

Thanks guys. I haven't actually spoken to the insurers properly yet as I'm not 17 till July. I think if I was to do that first then I could look at adding power/dropping weight. As with all young drivers, the insurance is the issue with anything I can do so any help with a way to go about it Is greatly appreciated My boss was telling me earlier this week that he has bought his youngster a "54 polo 1.4 and that it was actually cheaper to insure than a 1.0/1.2. Phone them up, shop around and you should be able to get a decent deal. Like I say, my first car was a 225 TT, and I was pretty young at the time.

Hello chaps.
I I have a friend in need of a roll cage for his mk2 fiesta.
I I am a little unsure on his specifics but I know that he wants a bolt in cage and not a weld in item. He would prefer it with a front loop section as well.
If if you have anything kicking about that you think may be of interest do please get in touch and hopefully between us something can be done.
Regards.

There is a meeting every Thursday in a very close proximity to dockside with the BHRA at the Robin Hood at the top of bluebell hill. All a nice bunch of guys.
EDIT
Winston also attends the above event.

Hidden, very well hidden, behind enough Shackles, locks and gates to give me enough time to grab a suitable length of scaffold pole and hit any potential intruder square over the head should anyone be inclined to try and find it.

Have you actually spoken to your insurance?
When I first started driving a few years ago I had an extensively modified mk2 Morris cooper. I phoned my insurance and had a chat with them, as a new driver my insurance covered me on my mini, 125hp, weld in cage, buckets. Track tyres and god knows what else, all declared of course for less than £500!
When I VR6'ed my van I expected to be rinsed, going from a 1.9TDI to a 2.9 VR6 with related brakes, suspension, wheels, tyres and exhaust modifications increased my premium by £68 a year.
So my advice is phone them up and have a chat with them, see what they say and address the situation from there, then perhaps if an engine conversion is not cost effective perhaps look for quotes for something bigger.
My first car (my mini above was a 2nd/weekend car) believe it or not was a 225bhp turbo Audi TT, loved the thing, only reason I bought it was because it was cheaper to insure that then my Fiesta ZS 1.6. Strange hey? Well that's how insurance works.
My boss has just bought his daughter a 1.4 100bhp polo for her first car at 17. He said it was cheaper to insure the 1.4 than the 1.0/1.2/1.3 equivalent.

The 9" sill is an over sill as Ryan has stated, they are as he rightly said, used to cover over rotten Manky sills so that the rotten ones don't have to be cut out. These are usually welded over the top and when they are there are no drain holes, so they result in a festering pocket of rotten metal that will only spread.
If you're buying a mini, dodge the oversills as much as possible, if you're buying I have seen people buy oversills and cut them down to whichever desired size of they're unsure what they want. I have bought them before because it was cheaper to buy oversills than it was to buy the 4" version. Seemed a no brained saving £10 per side and have some left over patching scraps.
Give mini spares a call, they'll them what you want and they will certainly be able to help, I was in their potters bar branch this Saturday, it's an hours drive to them from mine but their service is that good I wouldn't go anywhere else and the hours drive is a small price to pay.

So, I got some of this Methylene Chloride and tried mixing it with wall paper paste, doesn't seem to mix no mater what brand or method I use. I tried mixing it with corn starch and if I don't use enough it flashes off, too much and it congealed and became useless.
What are my other options?

Hey chaps.
I have in my lockup a Vr6 rear beam from a mk3 golf.
I kept it out of a conversion, it is complete as removed from the car.
I sold it on eBay and as per usual the chap never turned up for it, persisted a courier collected it despite me stipulating it was a collection only auction.
Now I really don't want to lug this thing around, or get fined for throwing it off of the nearest bridge.
So it's free to collector.
All parts are serviceable as far as I am aware and could be an excellent option to widetrack the rear of your golf.
Collection from ME8.
Please PM.

Like it, always have liked the CRX. Little confused as to why it has "Brazzers" on the tyres.
