I had similar problems with my Xantia a couple of winters ago. I now oil the locks and catches with my oil can in autumn before the cold weather arrives and I've had no problems since. I used to be able to get into the car but the door wouldn't shut and I had to drive to work holding it shut!

Some systems have a filter fitted. If so they rarely get changed, it's something else worth checking.
Also starting with simple stuff, is the belt in good condition and correctly adjusted?

My 130 is now virtually a bare shell except for the front screen which is bonded in. Sadly it's still heavy

Thanks for the kind offer. Did you make it yourself? Although it would be quicker and easier to use yours, as I have several other cars to do after the 130 I'm going to get my tilter welded up and into action so it's ready for the next one

It is a Lucas pump (same as on my Xantia 1.9d) The waxstat does two things, raises the idle when cold and advances the timing by operating an electrical switch. Sounds like it's working properly. I had to replace mine as it wasn't. I'm guessing here but thinking that it possibly stalled as the waxstat disengaged perhaps allowing the idle to drop a little too much too early hence the cut out. If so raising the idle slightly might just do the trick. Replacing the diesel supply pipe with a clear pipe is a handy mod though as it allows you to see if it is drawing air anywhere.

I've dealt with matt at Eurocarb a few times. Very knowledgeable and helpful.

Just get it moved to the docks on a transporter or trailer. If it's only 30 miles at £1 a mile it's only about £30. Not worth the risk and hassle to save £30.

I'm part way through building a chassis tilter to turn my Fiat 130 project over to complete welding on certain chassis and floorpan areas. How have people lifted their car successfully to mount it on a chassis tilter? A few years back when I restored my 131 (now sold) I made a chassis tilter at a former employer's garage and I remember we had lots of fun and nervous moments getting it lifted high enough to mount it. One more issue, the car is in a garage with not that much room down each side of it and not that much room infront and behind it

Nice XM. I currently run a Xantia 1.9d, perhaps I'll end up with an XM one day

Nice project. Lovin the blue car! I'm generally not into J stuff but I've always had a soft spot for these since I built a 280 ZX Fairlady model as a teenager.

wet and dry hoover to pull out the worst and then hang to dry as you were doing. If they are soaked through I would guess they will take up to a week to dry fully.

Looks like you've had a busy week It's the only way to do it, get everything out the way You could buy that blue one and make one good one out of the two and sell all the other bits Says the man who secured himself a really nice bodyshell and proceeded to cut it up into sections to weld onto his rusty shell ;D ;D ;D How you getting on with it? I love these Mafia staff cars You both amaze me with your dedication. In my defence, it was LHD (my car is original uk RHD) and was an Italian import with no documents. Also it did have rust even though it was a much better shell than mine

Well had a go at it tonight. Throttle and stop spindle seals replaced. The car now runs and doesn't appear to leak any more. I haven't driven it yet but it started first time and ran well

1) Like minded people who love all types of interesting cars and vehicles.
2) It's not about the money - people work on cars and do things themselves without spending tens of thousands like on some sites/in some magazines
3) Positivity. People are always positive and polite about your efforts. On some other sites people can be rude, unhelpful and unkind, belittling others efforts. Here people offer helpful advice and encouragement whatever the standard of your work.
4) Support and encouragement - Over the past couple of years I've found it hard to make much progress with my projects for various personal and financial reasons. I've had plenty of support and encouragement throughout these times.
5) Inspiration - Seeing so many great cars and projects really inspires you to work on your own. You get some great ideas too.
