I knew the DMC very well as Jon Hill is a very good fiend of mine, The car, although brilliant in concept, was never really well received within the hotrodding fraternity that read SM, I think the project was stalled by all the bad mouthing it got, After it was painted I think by Paintbox, it was pushed in a garage and forgotten about, waiting to be resurrected when the time was right, eventually the car was sold off to a lad in Hemel Hempsted, then resold on after then. after that, I never heard of it until it was mentioned on here. In the same sort of thread, what ever happened to the Mk1 cortina estate that was being built in CC, It was Belonged to the then editor, Tim Baggley and was started to be 2 doored, One side was done by then assistant editor Kev Elliot, who was a body man who worked along side Steve Bradshaw, at Streatham Crash Repairs... Story goes after Kev did one side, Baggley asked Kev to do the other side, Kevs answer was, I have shown you how to do it, now do the other side youself. Last time I heard, the Cortina was languishing in a lockup in the Croydon Area, and was the only 3 door Mk1 cortina in existence.

^^ I remember the buildup series on the tina, iirc it was going to get a 302 sbf in it also I always thought the reason it didn't get done was because baggally got smashed off his motorbike and very seriously injured? I've deffo seen another '2 doored using 2 door doors' mk1 tina wagon though - so either tim's got done, or someone nicked the idea he was an amazing editor for CC though - loved his 'intro's' ranting about hot hatches and radials / alternators on early fords haha

Later owned by Steve Speer, who built and owns that superb 38 willys sedan

Thanks V8Lee .. looks like I'm going to have to go looking in German for that Saab! ... Is Satisfaction likely to be finished by next year? Some choice picks (anyone know the current owner/state?) I saved this car around two years ago I will post a pic when I can work out how to lol.

I don't think Henry hirise is street machine car in the slightest. It's too old for starters, and far more custom car in its build style. it was actually the very first street machine cover car its every bit street machine

Satisfaction is currently in my mate's garage undergoing a full restoration - to it's Street Machine condition rather than it's original brand new condition. Interestingly, as it was originally a 2000GT it would probably cost less to do and be worth more when finished if it was restored to factory. nice to see that and glad its staying street machine style brings back memories

I know what Dez is getting at. We're talking about the cars that represent the outliers of the UK custom scene, not the straight up hot rods, customs and street racers but the unusual stuff that could work in Retro Cars. I bought that first issue (I was 8!) but the real glory days of SM for me were those cars above. Henry Hirise is a legend, but it's a legendary UK custom scene car, not a retro scene one. It's not simply about "cars which appeared in the magazine called Street Machine", more cars that fit into the UK Street Machine genre.

There are a few other cars from that area that spring to mind having disappeared, Steve Corbett's Mk2 Shark Blue SBC supercharged Pro St Zephyr, Apparently Steve Corbet still has this stashed away in a lock up exactly as it was. My fave car ever.
