I'm building an MGB with an RX8 gearbox and Saab turbo engine. I have an adaptor plate but the gearbox input shaft doesn't seem to go more than a few mm into the crank bearing. I'm thinking as the end of the shaft just supports its in the bearing and doesn't really take any load I could weld an extra section on and turn it down so its all the same thickness. Obviously I'll remove it from the box and grind a big V in the shaft ends so its strong. If I use another piece of input shaft as material can anyone think of a reason to not do it? I know I could have the bell housing skimmed down but I'm concerned if I take too much off it'll be too weak
Thanks Adam

I'm doing an MGB with a Saab turbo motor putting out 300+bhp. Plan is to use a BMW E46 box and diff. I need to decide on rear suspension and hubs. It looks like I'll be building a custom subframe for the diff and custom wishbones. Only thing I can work out is the rear uprights. Audi a6 quattro ones look promising. Can anyone recommend anything better?

Thanks for the info guys. The Hoyle stuff is out of price range but I think I'll end up fabbing up a rear suspesion system based on the Hoyle stuff with a BMW diff

I'm doing an MGB with a friend for hill climbs and track days. He is insisting on 300bhp and sub 10 minute Nurburgring laps.
Our plan is B234 Saab turbo engineand BMW E46 330i gearbox. As it we can get this for a lot cheaper than the SR20DET set up we originally planned. The big question is suspension and diff. I know nothing about MGBs but used to do fabrication on historic race cars. The front subframe looks usable to me with a bit of strengthening on the wishbones. Are the stub axles strong enough or are we better binning the lot and using something else?
Rear suspension looks like we need to go full custom and thinking we'll use the diff to match the gearbox out of a BMW but will have to check the ratios unless anyone has any suggestions?

I need a pair of coilovers that can take the weight of a 750kg caravan. They just need to have a bolt eye top and bottom and be cheap
I've googled but can't find any

Great pictures. Not seen the 428 before, I've done sills on 3 of those, they rot and overheat like you wouldn't believe. BTW the pre 66 thing is because that's when Goodwood closed as a competitive race circuit after Bruce McLaren was kill there

Great, I thought so but thanks for clearing that up! I've text the prospective buyer that unless insured and taxed, it's not going on the road, hopefully they'll see my point. Almost feel like a jobbo, but at the end of the day it's my record it'll go on as the reg'd keeper, my license that'll get the 6 points and my car that'll get seized. Wish me luck! Alex Your licence wouldn't get touched if you're not the one driving. However, if it turns out they don't have cover, it is your car that'll get seized - the way around this is to take the whole price as a deposit and let them knock themselves out. If they lose the car, you've got your price.. Not true. If you allow someone to drive your car with no insurance its 6-8 points and up to £5k fine. Sent from my GT-I9505 using proboards

You can get kits off eBay to repair them for about £30. Shame you didn't post this a few weeks ago as I've just sold a cluster with perfect pixels for not a lot

Doubt the insurance will even send anyone out to see it. New door, wheel and rear quarter will write that off

I've got a 99 Audi A3 quattro 8l on coil over's. It is missing its front anti roll bar and does handle all that well as a result. From research it seems the arb should run under the drive shaft and mount to the strut rather than a loop over the shaft and mount to the wishbone like the FWD ones and mkIV golfs. Can anyone confirm this? My coil over's don't have a mount doe the arb presumably why it was removed. Has anyone ever added one? I'm thinking of a ring that can clamp between the nuts on the coilover but I'm worried about it wrecking the threads. Has anyone ever made a custom drop link to attach it to the wishbone? Any ideas welcome
Thanks
Adam

Having crash repaired a few cobras I'd go for a full cage. The scuttle can very easily be patched if you chose to remove the cage later. Also I'm told without a hard top the aerodynamics stop them going much over 160 (if you've got the balls to do that in a car that is essentially 2 4" tubes and 18g aluminium)

A friend has an old compass citizen 340 caravan. When they were towing it the other day the suspension collapsed. It seems the rubber suspension has gone and someone badly fitted coilovers to it and the shonky welding snapped and the mount fell off. If I can't source a replacement axle is OK to just do the coil over mounts properly? I used to repair crashed race cars so I can build the mounts so they don't snap but I don't know anything about the axles and if they are likely to come apart if the rubber "springs" have collapsed/perished.
They've been quoted £600 to have the axle rebuilt but thats out their price range and not far off the value of the van.
Thanks
Adam

What are you looking for to swap? What do you value it at? I may be interested in a swap for my 99 Audi A3 quattro 1.8T. Mods on the engine and coil over's. Has 10mths MOT so would want cash my way

Insurers can't get out of 3rd party cover if you have undeclared mods, they can reclaim costs from you after a crash so its not good but you can't be done for no insurance because of it

After 3 laps of the Nurburgring I was driving back on the motorway and the car seemed to cough then carry on but it doesn't feel like its producing any boost. It drove 500 miles across Europe without an issue other than being a bit sluggish. It has a bailey aftermarket recirculating dump valve and a big air filter and so you can normally hear the dump valve hissing which you now can't. I pulled over and had a quick look at all the hoses on top of the engine and couldn't see anything split or hanging off. Where do I start with diagnosing this? Thanks, have a pic of a car getting air at flugplatz as payment Adam

In a strange bit of EU law all EU insurance policies cover you for the 'ring as its a public road - its actually a derestricted one way toll road. Insurance companies cannot pick and choose what roads they cover or not regardless of what they put on the policy document. But and its a big but, under UK law your insurance company can claim all costs back from a claim they have paid out that they wouldn't have paid out under UK. It doesn't help long term but you won't get done for no insurance by the Germans.
Remember to take your insurance, MOT and V5 in case the worse happens.
Last time I went one of our group had a coming together with another car and footage from a gopro proved the other drivers fault and saved him a £13k excess payment on the hired car
