Tig is all about practice. Get all the metal you can and try it on the bench. Fiddle with all the settings, keep turning it up and down so you get a feel for when the power is too high or low. Try different torch angles and rod angles to see what works for you.

Could it be something to do with reverse, stop the cable spinning the other way and damaging the speedo?

Cost of repair of that will far outweigh replacement. I'd also think carefully before talking to insurance company as they will likely write it off

Just reread it. You're using flux core wire, I think it's just nasty stuff to use full stop

Looks like the gas is running out or the gas line is leaking and not enough gas is getting through to shield the weld

I need 4 wheel bolts for a 02 Audi A6 but I expect anything VAG would do. Anyone got a breaker they can raid for me?
Thanks Adam

I've had a doc dig around in my eyeball trying to get a bit of metal and giving up when it started bleeding. Went back to see a specialist the next day expecting all sorts of nastiness and he got it out before I realised he'd even started so it may not be too bad

I've started playing around with my raspberry pi to make a remote control system for my boiler.
The aim is to have a web portal to control the schedule and temperature for my boiler. I've got a raspberry pi, a solid state relay and a few one wire temperature probes which I'll cobble together to replace the thermostat currently in the lounge. Our combi boiler has its own controller and a thermostat that is basically a switch. If the schedule says the heath g should be on and the thermostat is closed the boiler comes on. I plan to set the boiler to constant and control it with the relay via the thermostat connection.
I'm using python and bottle to code it, I've put the project on Google code. Its just a load of functions at the moment.
If there is any of interest I'll add more details and if anyone wants to join in let me know especially if you're any good at front end design as I'm rubbish

For that budget you only get some really poor new.
I'm not up on prices but try and get something from a known brand like kemppi, miller etc

Hi,
I've just got a 99 A3 1.8T Quattro. It has coilvers fitted and the top mount doesn't appear to be connected to the car. When on its wheels the top of the struts push into the bay by a good inch or so but drops right down when jacked up and the strut moves. It looks like there should be something on top that bolts down. I'm not familiar with these so don't know how it should be, does anyone have an exploded diagram of how it should be?
Thanks
Adam

What made you stay with the M60 and not use an M62 without the niksil issues?
Great build

I'm going to look at an Audi A3 1.8t auto tomorrow. The seller says its a quattro but parkers don't list an auto quattro till 2003. Does anyone know who's right?
Thanks

I'm changing job mid Jan AMD my commute goes from 80miles a day to 25 so I don't need the barge anymore plus the new office car park is quite tight.
Its calypso red with black leather. 165k and 11months MOT. Tax is up end of Dec so I'll put 6 months on it.
Not the tidyiest example you'll see but not too bad. Roof has been painted badly and has a bubble of crust on one a pillar. Dent just above one rear light and a damaged rear bumper.
Best bit is the 4.4 V8 with BRC sequential LPG conversion.
It has a little misfire at the moment but I have a set of plugs which hopefully will clear that. Also you have to stop and start it when up to temp to get it to switch to gas. I'm told its likely an air lock in the LPG/coolant bit and will have a go at bleeding it. Runs great on LPG when its switched.
I have replaced all the front suspension and steering arms, rear arms and struts and the problematic rear ball joints.
Parking sensors work and gearbox is faultless.
Looking for something smaller. E30, 36 or 46, merc, vw etc. Nothing too small though
I value it at about £700

I'll see if i can get some. I won't lie its a bit tatty. The roof has been sprayed badly and it has a small dink in the rear above the light and the rear bumper is damaged.
I always planned to DA it off and rustolem it dark grey.
Most things work. Parking sensors etc. I'm often in Beenham so if all that hasn't put you off I could pop over with it but probably not till the new year

Not on your list but would an E38 740 its a 96 on a P and has the M62 4.4 V8 with BRC LPG interest you? 11months MOT. Far from perfect but had nearly all the suspension replaced, the egr valve that all ways goes done and no 60mph shimmy. Leather interior is in good nick and it has 18 inch alloys with good tyres. I'd value it about the same as yours. Am I right that you're near Beenham?
