That engine grew up to be a Focus TDCi in various forms, especially 115bhp! Not too sure if it also matured into 125bhp in some newer Fords. Would expect its an easy enough swap and just as fast as a Zetec would be and better on fuel.
If switching to petrol, why not the ST170 which i think is also a well trodden route for Escorts? Then there is the next big thing for Fords with the new ecoboost engines if you can stretch to that. All the very best, Geoff.

Working shifts that start at 6am or 1pm, and finshing 1pm or 9pm, i seem to miss a fair bit of the madness that can go on. The worst trip home is after late shift where at least one of my colleagues and i get cut up every night at the first roundabout we encounter. After that its lane hogs who then don't know what lane to be in! Then there is always an Audi driver who thinks the highway code translates to something else in German, then add in the little neds who think everyone wants to race all the time!
I seem to be attracting some self appointed traffic controllers as well recently who are the ones who really spoil things. Had one the other night in his Zafira VXR or whatever who was driving below the limit as is his right, not bothered as my car is cruising nicely. Next roundabout he turns right onto a dual carriageway and i let him go. I get my turn to head in the same direction and do as i do every time i use this bit of road and give it a wee boot. I get up the hill, Zafira sees me and into the RH lane so must be turning right at the next roundabout! No, he went straight on, while i was turning left anyway!
Other than that, if i need a drive, I'm off to Kirriemuir or Forfar but not using the direct route. The A93 is only half an hour away, as is the A85 to Creiff, then there is a multitude of roads in between. On the down side, went to Pitlochry a couple of weeks ago and used the A93/A924 Moulin Moor road and had to slow down because the wife felt sick, and i wasnt going that fast!

Plans for 2019 working out? Well not really!
Wifes too new Fiesta is a great car, but its been in for its MOT the last week, and the wife has been driving the Octavia. Decision time tomorrow when we get the Fiesta back as to, will she keep the car she loves, but not to drive, or take the car she hates but loves driving? One has to go to get onto the next one, but which one?
My Mondeo is just doing what a car should do and plodding along when required. Not getting used at the weekend enough though, whether that is for a blast, or because it needs some work, which it rarely needs.
Due to my father and son wanting a project, i now have a second Mk2 Mondeo that will be filling daily duties for me. It has its faults, has more than double the miles the other one has, but should give my son some experience to go with his new direction in life. All the very best, Geoff.

With just about 2 miles to work as the crow flies, there is probably a dozen routes i can take, and usually mix it up. For early shift i usually need to use the 7 minute route in the morning, and home is about 15 minutes going the long way but only urban dual carriageway.
Getting to maw n paws i rarely use the most direct route which is always snarled up, even on a Sunday! All the very best, Geoff.

My s60 d5... Oh, you said fun lol E39 530i M sport would be my choice. Ok, i only had a lucky break on a hire car and ended up with an S60 D5 for a long weekend, but i loved it, especially when it got me out of a few sticky situations i put it into. I take it ownership is significantly different? I'm with the Mondeo turbo as i would like one myself, but the lack of numbers might put me off. Did that engine go into the S-Max as well? All the very best, Geoff.

Having only had 3 non Fords before i joined here, wasnt so sure this place had swayed me too much. I did add a Skoda to my fleet, but that was only because it was there when i needed a car pdq.
More recently though, i have been on the lookout for a project that my son and dad can have a bit of fun with, and as i am the one insuring and using it, its more than likely gonna be a 90s Mondeo or Escort, but i have looked on the net for some Rovers, especially a 420 Touring, 600, 800 and 75/MG ZT, and that is driven by this place.
Maybe something will show up in this thread? All the very best, Geoff.

Hired one not long after they came out when my Escort at the time ate its gearbox. Absolutely loved it on my back roads trip to work and was very reluctant to hand it back at the end of the week!
Only thing that stops me buying one now is the rot issues, but there is a yellow collection sitting on my street that tempts me to just scratch that itch.
There are repaired and cosseted Kas out there, so if you can find one, just do it.

We started going to auctions for our dailys and 18 month ago picked up a 2003 48k Skoda Octavia TDI for £1100, a 2004 47k Focus 1.6 for £450, both with short MOTs but both of them went through their 2 MOTs under our ownership with no issues. Our latest 2007 73k Fiesta was nabbed for £1150 is turning out to be the best car we have owned, although it wont be as good at MOT time.
If you are savvy enough, i would give auctions a try as there are plenty cars, at my local anyway, that go through on the bargain side.
Plenty good stuff out there on Gumtree and Facebook, but all 3 need approached with care! All the very best, Geoff.

Wifes daily Focus got written off to be replaced by a more modern Fiesta. Failed to sell my daily Skoda but the Mondeo is through its MOT for another year.
If a few things go my way soon, i may have another Retro in the fleet and my father is looking out for a project to do with my son! I know what i want them to get, but my son is dead against a Ford!

Think there is some confusion entering into the Ford engines timeline and i will probably just add to the confusion!
Had the Kent in my first 2 cars, then moved onto the CVH in 5 of my next 6 cars and I didnt see anything in common with these and cant remember seeing any reference to this before. It doesnt help that the Kent 1.3/1.6 was replaced by the CVH, only for Kent derived Valencia 1.3 to replace the 1.3 CVH from the mid 80s, why? The Valencia lasted until the end of the Ka in 2008.
The Pinto, especially the 2 litre, I'm sure we all know was developed into the Cosworth, but also formed the basis of the DOHC I4 which i had in a Sierra. Thought it was a great engine, and even better in the 2.3 Galaxy i owned and was used in those until 2006.
For the Zetec, i remember something about being developed from the CVH, but i think that was coincidental with the main reason being keeping costs down. Seen some nice ZVH builds over the years though! Confusion reigns though as the Zetec-SE found in Fiesta/Puma/SportKa/Focus was jointly developed with Yamaha. To add in some confusion at this point is some higher power late Zetecs are badged Duratecs, but real Duratecs are Mazda developed 1.8 and 2.0 engines.
However, most of that is irrelevant to this thread with only versions of the Kent(1959) and Pinto(1970) blocks i believe still being manufactured to this day by specialist engine builders.
Mention of that Volvo 2.5T engine reminds me i need to find a Mondeo with one in it for my next daily! Oh and did Audi have a hand in that engine before Volvo?

My first sergestion would have been the 3.0 jag V6 from the s-type and X-type as well but you say it's to big? In the X-type it's mounted transverse so I wouldn't of thought that would have been that big and there cheap as chips Other options on V6 would be fords mondeo st Alfa Land Rover freelander/MG ZS Nissan 350 Toyota do one that lotus use or Lexus do a V6 As for power I'm sure the jag is 240bhp and with good torque the MG is only 180bhp mondeo is 220 And there all quad cam set up so I'm guessing if ones to big there all to big Again I have no idea what your putting this in so I don't know if a straight 6 is also to big Which means the only option is a highly tuned 4 pot of some sorts or maybe a 5 pot The engine that Porsche binned and Ford developed into the Mondeo i think grew into one of the best engines of its time. Noble i believe even put 2 turbos on it and got in excess of 350bhp out of it for the M12. Ive seen an Escort with a 2.5 V6 in it with an adapter plate to fit a Ford RWD bell housing and gearbox, but i think i have seen that an MX-5 bell housing and gearbox may fit with obvious adaptions. All the very best, Geoff.

To echo someone else, i decide during last summer that 2019 was supposed to be an exercise in removing debt while keeping a reduced fleet of 3 cars having just scrapped a 53 plate Focus. With the mortgage coming to an end July 19, i had a sure fire target to clear the loan(done), save some rainy day money(done), clear the credit card, clear the overdraft then look for another retro-ish car.
So i was perusing gumtree as I'm sure we all do and turned up a mk2 Mondeo Ghia X with no MOT which i will no doubt end up buying! Thing is, its MOT time for my Mondeo and the wifes Focus so what will i do??? All the very best, Geoff.

Whilst I realise some relish a challenge '£500 winter hack' - personally it's my idea of hell on wheels - I can't think of anything worse than being stuck with a beaten to death motor that won't start in a morning when you needed to be somewhere an hour ago, stuck on the hard shoulder in a freezing winter with a dead engine or something that you are constantly having to fix in order to keep it alive when you have better things to be doing - just maybe the 40 years of driving / motoring / multiple car owning experience has got to me but the days of running wing & prayer motors for me went out of the window many years ago. Don't get me wrong I'm not one for queuing up outside the showroom window every time a new model or the latest registration plate is issued either - I believe in value for money motors - purchased for no more than you have to pay for them but also with some credibility & reliability. I appreciate that if you can get a years + motoring out of something so cheap / purchased for less than £500 then you deserve to wear a broad grin on your face especially when the drivers of the cars around you have parted with £20k + for something or are paying a large wedge of tax to the UK government for running a company car. Maybe I am wise or maybe just getting old, possibly experienced but certainly not smug - then again almost certainly 'grumpy' each to their own I suppose. Right then I had better check that the AA membership is in order before heading off on my 700 mile round trip with a P38 Range Rover & car trailer Definitely not been hell on wheels for me over the years! While the wife drove the main family car, if i needed a car to get to work, i never spent more than £400 on cars for many years and i don't think any of them failed me at 5.30 on a winters morning. The one car we spent over £3000 on was the one that kept biting although it did last many years, mainly because the money we had to spend before cutting our losses! As years have passed, we have gone back to £500 cars and find them to last years, rather than not bothering with the next MOT. 2 of the current fleet cost £350 each and will certainly be multi year cars to be joined by another less than £500, the other 2 less than a grand each and will be replaced next year but one of them will be a multi year £500 car for someone else. Arabest, Geoff.

What about a Focus? Ive had a 1.6 petrol and 1.8TDCi that lasted 5 years, then a 1.8 petrol thats into its second year. My eldest daughter has a low miles 1.6 that she got for £350 last year and i will be surprised if she doesnt have that for a good few years.
don't think anyone had mentioned Xsara and Seat Leon. Found the ones i hired to be great fun to drive, but the same age Golf was a bit bland. Even an Almera was a better drive! Arabest, Geoff.

I know i keep saying this, but I'm desperate to see if someone will fit a Focus 1.8TDCi into one of the older oil burners. Wish i had the money to do it myself! Arabest, Geoff.

I cant believe that you have not sold this. Sadly I'm 400 miles away so I'm out!
The best endorsement for these is i believe the designer of the Focus still has his S-reg 1.6 Focus. Have 3 of these in the family just now and wish i still had my TDCi! If someone can see past the Ford badge, i doubt you will be disappointed!
Good Luck, Geoff.
