Sucata Run Day Four
Salamanca to Lisbon and on to the end of the Sucata Run; Cabo da Roca; the most westerly point of the European landmass
Well the day started with a little bit of FIAT FeTTLing outside our Hotel in Salamanca
Then some more fettling when we met up witha group of fellow Sucata-teers at the first service station outside Salamanca
Then two Sucata Cars come in to say that another Sucata car [Pirates of Sucata in a Pug] had just lost a wheel on the motorway
So we went to help them out
They were driving at about 60mph when the front passenger wheel flew off ahead of them
Scott [driver] describes how the wheel bounced 40 feet in the air; across both carriageways; and 400 yards ahead of the car!
So off we went to retrieve the wheel
Errant wheel retrieved
It had travelled more than 400 yards ahead of the car and right across both carriageways; caught by the catch fencing; luckily as it was on its way towards the Service Station where the other Sucata Teams were waiting...
It still had all four wheelbolts ratting around loose under the wheel trim!!!!!
Happy to find two [of the four] holes in the hub still had usable thread; two of the bolts retrieved with the errant wheel were also usable
Got some interest from Spanish Motorcycle Cops
Who offered phone numbers of expensive tow trucks
Got them going again, salvaging a good wheel bolt from each of the rear wheels, got a two cop motorcyle escort off the dual carriageway ...then stopped to check those BaD wheelbolts!
TaGGeD the road at our stopping point [NauGHty]
The errant wheel back in place; wing tagged!;
white sprayed bolts are GOOD;
BLaCK sprayed bolts are BaD!;
Went on a little further on the local side roads taking it easy
Then stopped to check those bolts again
At this stop had a brainwave.....used "Chemical/Plastic Metal" to glue those BaD bolts in place....[better than locktite]
Team celebration photo once the chemical metal had done its job!!!!
BaD Bolts now solid...no way that wheel is coming off . . . . EVER!
Chemical metal FiX managed to get them all the way from Salmanca, Spain to Lisbon, Portugal and beyond . . .
to the end of the Sucata Rally . . .
Fuct [FixT] FIAt and Me at the most westerly point of the landmass of Europe . . . . . .
End of the Rally..but now to get home again!
