Good work! Love to do this conversion.
I've got a 328 with the M52 engine that my wife crashed so I'm breaking it. I've listed a load of bits on eBay but if there is anything you need or want to have in reserve I can end the auctions early so just let me know. Got complete engine still so everything is here

I'm taking the head off my breaker E46 328 as the engine as a whole isn't worth much and the heads go for a few hundred quid on ebay. Got most of it striped off but how do I remove the timing chain off the ends of the cam? Is there a link that comes apart somewhere ?
Cheers Adam

So one is cracked, but you can't see it until you strip them down? How exactly would he be expected to know? And they're second hand. Buyer beware. Pursuing him for a refund is just nasty unless you suspect he knew beforehand. This ! How was he supposed to know until they were stripped down ? Go and pay £20 to have it welded and take it on the chin You can see the crack in the pictures above. I'd ask for money towards repair

I've repaired more BMW wheels with a crack exactly the same a that than I can count. Run flat tyres and their rock hard sidewalls account for most of the cracks

Alloy will be fine with the chemicals but put the wheel in a plastic bag so it doesn't dry off and wash with thinners when you're done

If you can connect to the fuel lines an easy way to drain it is to disconnect the feed and return. To the feed connect one of those rubber bulbs for priming diesels and some fuel hose into a can of diesel and connect a line to the feed from the tank to an empty can. Pump the bulb to pump diesel around the fuel system until clean diesel is coming out the return. Start the car and pump the bulb every so often. The lift pump will pump the fuel out the tank to your can while the engine idles. How we did it when I worked for a fuel evacuation firm.
Then brim it with diesel and add a bottle of diesel treatment

Need to get the car I'm breaking off the drive.
It's a 328 SE e46 5 speed manual. 190bhp as standard. Engine runs and would be great in a retro
If you want it you can have any bits as the car bar interior is nearly complete and with a charged battery will start
Price depends on what you want but let's say £250 for the engine and box as a lump with the bits bolted to it included

I feel cheated, most interesting thing I've found in my car is a cassette of a girl guides choir and a packet of NHS issue hearing aid batteries

I've welded many a fuel tank after filling with water then a good wash out with truck wash. A lot easier than messing around with exhausts or filling it with paper

There is a little shop called Collectors Car Parts near Heathrow that has more stuff in it that anywhere I have ever seen. Howard who runs it is mad but knows where most of the stuff is, mainly British stuff. If you need an obscure part chances are he has it

Ubuntu made a fuss about having nothing to do with raspberry pi, they won't do a version that can run on the arm chip rpi have used. They have just released an arch arm Linux distro for it and fedora have developed a version for it

I know there will be limitations but I want it more as a toy to see what I can do rather than a proper solution. That said there are gpio pins, I wonder if they could be used for an esata interface to speed up data transfer

I've seen a project to use one as a NAS with a external harddrive plugged in to the USB as it'll run 1080p video it could be a good project to have 2. One as a server and another connected to your tv as a client to stream the video to and to access iplayer, Netflix etc

Got mine ordered, any other RR'ers getting one? Not sure what to do with it yet, I got it as Linux and coding knowledge will be quite useful at work. I want to train to do security testing so a low level understanding of network stuff will be great. I'm thinking of developing a email server or similar to learn how they work.
If you've got one on order put your plans and or thoughts here
